Meet Pierce Kavanagh of Misfit Gallery in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pierce Kavanagh.

Pierce, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Misfit Gallery was created by Petra and Pierce Kavanagh as a hub for their many events that they have presented in San Diego over the past 7 years. Art Gallery by day and event space by night. The Misfit Gallery presents the San Diego Surf Film Festival and the Action International Film Festival every year in addition to over 20 group art show yearly. Recently, the Misfit Gallery is offering LJ ARTS; After School Art Program to children 10-17 years of age.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Breaking away from the pack and trying to do something completely original will always be a struggle. Paying rent to keep the doors open is a constant struggle but the smiles are worth it.

Please tell us about Misfit Gallery.
We are a grassroots company that share communal values as a priority, The Misfit Gallery is a platform for artists to utilize that normally do not get the much need wall space to show their art. We have displayed as many first-time artists as we have with established artists.

We are the underground.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Bodysurfing and surfing with my younger brother Dennis throughout our lives.
