Hi Jen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Our journey began in a quaint coffee shop in Carlsbad, CA, right by the beach. About three years ago, in 2021, we decided it was time to channel our passion for the ocean and creativity into something tangible. With backgrounds in photography and design, we were both seeking a creative outlet that could merge our professional skills with our love for the sea. Thus, Saltwatr Studios was born.
Inspired by the ever-changing waves and serene coastal landscapes, we set out to create content and designs that embody the spirit of the ocean. Our experience in the creative fields helped us craft unique and visually appealing items that resonate with our community. Over the past three years, we’ve grown from a simple idea discussed over coffee to a thriving brand that continues to evolve, driven by our dedication to creativity and our deep connection to the ocean.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have faced some challenges, which have been integral to our growth. One of the initial struggles was finding our footing in a competitive market. As a new brand, it took time to build recognition and a loyal customer base.
Navigating the logistics of production was another hurdle. Ensuring quality while managing costs required a lot of trial and error. We also faced challenges with marketing; learning how to effectively reach and engage our audience was a steep learning curve.
Additionally, balancing our creative vision with the practicalities of running a business sometimes led to tough decisions and compromises. However, these struggles taught us resilience and adaptability, and ultimately strengthened our commitment to our brand’s core values. Each challenge has been a learning opportunity, shaping us into the brand we are today.

We are a creative studio specializing in brand identity and graphic design, web design and development, social media and content creation, and photography and videography. Our work revolves around crafting unique and cohesive brand experiences that resonate with audiences across various platforms.
We pride ourselves on our holistic approach, seamlessly blending visual aesthetics with functional design to create impactful brand identities. Our team’s diverse expertise allows us to handle everything from the initial concept to the final execution, ensuring consistency and quality at every step.

Finding a mentor and networking effectively are crucial for personal and professional growth. Here’s some advice based on what has worked well for us: Be proactive and genuine when reaching out to people whose work you admire. Attend industry events, workshops, and seminars to meet like-minded professionals. Leverage social media platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram by engaging with potential mentors’ content. Joining professional organizations can also open doors to networking opportunities. When approaching a mentor, offer value in return, such as your skills or insights. Building relationships takes time, so be persistent and patient, following up respectfully.
For us, attending local creative meetups and engaging in online communities have been incredibly effective. We’ve built valuable connections by actively participating in discussions and collaborating on projects. Remember, networking is about building meaningful relationships, not just expanding your contact list.
