Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Chain.
Hi Christopher, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love of photography started with going outside and takng photos with my phone. When I got my first DSLR I was so amazed with how much control you had over the style and look of the photos. Then I really got into editing and making the photo look and feel the way you want. It is definitely my creative outlet!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say it’s just like learning anything new. You will make mistakes. I learned a lot by trial and error. Also I honestly learned so much by watching Youtube videos. I would watch all the videos I could about a certain thing I wanted to learn and then go out and try it that night. It’s so amazing having so much info at your fingertips now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Most of my photography is outside of nature or wildlife. I love going outside for a hike or a trip somewhere new and bringing my camera with me. I would say I specialize in bird photography. It’s the hardest thing to me so I love when I get a great shot. You usually have a small window to get the shot. It’s a challenge that I love. One of my highlights I’m most proud of is wining first place in the exhibition of photography at the San Digo County Fair. It’s one of the largest photography competitions in the U.S with thousands of photos entered.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I really never took a big risk in my photography. It was something that I enjoyed and liked to do. I thought about doing it full time but it became stressfull to me. It would have been a big leap to go full time and pursue something I enjoy and also make money from. At the end I’m glad I didn’t risk going all in. I still love taking photos and glad there is now worry if I will make or sell my photos at the end of the day.
