Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Wathen.
Isaac, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in a stereotypical upper-class home in South Carolina. We were safe, comfortable and provided-for. I met my parents’ expectations of good behavior and academic excellence. Through this I developed my self-image as a high performer that did the “right” thing. The conventional life path looked like a yellow-brick road to me.
But within me there rumbled a desire to break the rules and do things differently.
But then, when I was 17, I spent a night in jail.
I had broken the rules, and my morality was put into question. I internalized the belief that breaking outside of the mold was shameful and disastrous.
As a response, I recommitted to the straight and narrow to affirm that I was a “good person”.
Years later, I found myself at a yoga retreat, surrounded by entrepreneurs who lived in flow. At that time, I was a 6-figure corporate tech salesman, so this was completely new to me.
I opened up to the possibility of an alternative path – a life of success and freedom on my own terms
I began to question if my tunnel-vision to the college-job-marriage-house-kids route was closing me off to the opportunities that were really meant for me.
And I began dismantling my rigid copy-and-paste 5-year plan. I started to understand what I truly wanted from life, and what life wanted from me.
I made the decision to live life on my terms.
And surrendered to the painful and powerful curriculum of life.
During that time, I wondered if I was crazy for leaving a good, normal life behind without a guarantee of something greater.
Some of the big milestones were getting engaged (then breaking off that engagement), getting diagnosed with a brain tumor, solo-traveling through India, and sitting in silent meditation for 10 days.
I realized that there was a depth of pain inside me from years of repressing my feelings and ignoring my needs. The work ahead was daunting, but I knew I could transform that pain into power.
This led me to take ownership of my past, present, and future
to embrace my vision of helping others
experience unconditional love for self
Trust the guidance of something greater
And naturally realize their purpose
by becoming a coach for change-ready men
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles have been making the excruciating decisions to give up the comfortable life I was living, to make space for the life I’m meant for.
In order to get to a place where I trusted myself enough to go all-in on my business, I had to make some big choices without a promise of things working out. The biggest ones included breaking off an engagement, and quitting my secure corporate job of 6 years.
When I started my business, I found that I’d freed myself from the corporate matrix just to enter the entrepreneurial matrix, where the pressure to scale your business to infinity is reflected all around.
Recalibrating my nervous system to be okay with rest, to be patient with growth, and to enjoy the freedom that entrepreneurship grants was another struggle.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In my coaching practice, I help men unlock self-confidence and inner peace so they can actualize their ideal lives.
I work with men to help them rewrite the story that brought them to this point, and acknowledge the past versions of themselves.
We illuminate and interrupt the patterns that got them this far, but won’t take them where they want to go now.
We shift the paradigms that subconsciously govern their behaviors so they can see new possibilities for their way of living.
We reclaim their power by venturing into their shadows and finding the secret superpowers that are hidden there.
We renew their self-connection by building the self-trust that comes from knowing you can do what needs to be done.
This shows up in the inner child work, shadow work, parts work, cognitive reappraisal, prescribed custom meditations, and embodiment practices within our sessions.
It also shows up in the integration invitations they take into their “real-world” lives between our sessions to deepen relationships, expand edges, and lock in practices.
I also work with men in group settings in mens groups I lead once/month
