Meet Saul Marquez of Outcomes Rocket

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saul Marquez.

Saul Marquez

Hi Saul, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been fascinated by stories. I’ve always enjoyed people. My mom and dad immigrated to the states from Mexico and got married very young. They had me two years later, and growing up, I went to a lot of their friend’s wedding parties. At one of those weddings, I was singing along with one of the song’s the band was playing and my dad nudged me to “go up there and sing with them!” I liked the idea but was a bit scared, so he walked me up there and I sang the entire next song with them, along with some solo parts. With the applause and praise right after we finished, I was hooked. I knew that I needed to do something to connect with people, crowds, perform, influence, entertain.

That led me to do theatre and then speech and debate while in college. Those skills, transitioned into a sales career for many years in the medical devices field that evolved into running my own full service marketing agency focused on healthcare founders, leaders, and brands seeking to transform healthcare. 50% of businesses fail after 5 years and 97% fail after 10 years. The #1 reason for failure is lack of product demand. Lack of product demand happens when you don’t know how to tell a story about your mission, vision, values, or product. It’s a shame and especially a big shame for those mission driven companies in healthcare seeking to make healthcare better for us all. Knowing that every business needs a good story and the ability to communicate it, I set forth on a mission to help those founders, leaders, and brands in healthcare fulfill their maximum impact potential. That’s where my company, Outcomes Rocket, was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. The first version of the business failed. The reason was my audience wasn’t well aligned. The second version of the business, focused on healthcare leaders seeking to transform healthcare through innovations like SaaS companies, medtech, and biotech companies. Figuring out who your target market to serve is one of the most important decisions you can make. Then, it’s figuring out the best way to serve them. We started as a podcast production agency since we had at that point recorded over 400 podcasts on our podcast, the Outcomes Rocket. (now we’re at almost 1,700 episodes!) Through those conversations we learned that people wanted help creating podcasts. But the next issue we ran into was that we were a one-trick pony. The next challenge was building a business that added more value and solved bigger problems than just content. So since we were developing all this content for our clients, the next opportunity was to help them target that content to their ideal audiences through social media, email, the web, and paid ads. So we built out our owned, paid, and web development capabilities. From there, we realized there was even still a bigger opportunity to help our clients get discovered and featured in stories, so we kicked off our public relations and media relations business. This year, we’re solving even bigger problems and we’re getting into the research and insights space. Every time one of our clients or friends comes to us with problem, we put our thinking caps on and say, how could we solve that? Is it worth solving? Should we be thinking about this differently? With every challenge, both internal and from our clients, we’ve found ways to create opportunity.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Outcomes Rocket helps health technology companies that struggle getting clients or don’t have enough clients to scale their business. We do it through full-service marketing that helps them achieve their goals of transforming healthcare and creating successful companies. What sets us apart from others are four key things. We’re data-driven, pure-play healthcare (we only serve healthcare clients), digital-first, and have a massive network in healthcare.

What I’m most proud of brand-wise is our obsession with healthcare and the culture we’ve created as a team. We are a fully remote, super inclusive company with employees across the US, Ireland, Latin America, India, and Asia. The diversity in our team heps us best serve the culture and communities our business to business customers run.

I want reads to know that if they a healthcare business founder, leader, or brand that is seeking to transform the healthcare provider or healthcare payer space, we’ve got your back and can help make a huge impact with you.

**The Segments we work in**

– Earned – we help our clients create a strategy and story to get media coverage that positions them as thought leaders and creates marketplace credibility.
– Paid – we power up content, offers, and initiatives with advertising that spans social media to targeted trade publications.
– Insights – we help customers uncover market opportunities, fine-tune value propositions, and create effective go-to-market strategies.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
One of my favorite quotes from Jim Rohn is, “You are the average of your five closest peers.” This is true in every work, personal, and spiritual aspect. Mentors have changed my life. I value my mentors and always find ways to add massive value to them and make sure they are positively enforced to keep mentoring me.

I also believe in the law of attraction. It starts with your intention, followed by action, and it leads to attraction. My advice to finding mentors is to first be clear on your own personal, professional, and financial intentions and goals. If you need help with that part, find a mentor that is great at setting goals. Once you are clear on your goals, look around your environment (both physical and digital) and see who has done what you want to do or who has become who you want to become, who has acquired/achieved what you want to acquire/achieve. The cool thing is that you can get mentored by leaders in person, virtual, or even asynchronously with people you admire who have written books, started podcasts, contribute regularly to publications etc. Get mentors that you can check in with as well as emerse yourself in their content so that you can achieve your goals faster. If it is a mentor/mentee relationship, always lead with value. Get to know them, understand what their goals, dreams, and passions are and find ways to help them. The best surprises are when you can help someone that didn’t expect you to and that really takes the relationship to the next level.
