Today we’d like to introduce you to RE:SET .
Hi RE:SET, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are Clovis Luz and Ricardo Ota, we met day one of engineering school in Florida, where both of us had just moved to from Brazil in 2018. We both shared a passion for electronic music and had the dream of becoming touring artists, so we supported each other on our music journey. On our sophomore year we moved together and started DJing and working on music together, as well as playing at our local college parties.
We moved to California in 2022 after graduating from college and around April 2023 that’s when we started the RE:SET project together. Since then, we started promoting ourselves in the local scene, working on our brand, playing shows around SoCal and now releasing our own music.
We have been working hard for the past 6 months to share a new kind of music experience to the world. We still have a long way to go to achieve our dreams, but we are in this position today by believing on who we are and what we want to deliver to our audience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been ups and downs as we try to create our brand as artists in the local scene. As we had just moved to SoCal, networking in the beginning was challenging, as well as finding venues where we could showcase our music. However as time went by we met some amazing people and built great friendships in the industry.
Another challenge in our career has been branding ourselves around Psytechno, an electronic music niche not so popular in the US, as Dubstep and Tech House, for example. On the other hand this has opened many doors to us to bring this type of music to the local scene and motivate others to showcase their unique styles.
Although we are not where we want to be yet, we have achieved more than we could’ve ever imagined in a short period of time. In less than a year we played at the main San Diego clubs, got signed by a record label and have our own event along with other very talented local artists on the same niche as us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a duo of electronic music DJ and producers from Brazil, and we play in SoCal as RE:SET. RE:SET is our Psytechno project that we brand as the reflection of two aliens on Earth, who travel across universes to experience music.
Our music aims to bring a unique experience to our audience where they can feel as they’re traveling through space and be one with themselves. Our music is focused on a psychedelic sound design, and hypnotic storytelling arrangements that puts the listener in a state of trance.
We are known for combining the Techno universe and the realms of Psytrance in our productions, as we include groovy basslines with deep psychedelic elements that stand out in our performances.
We are proud of the way that we work together and how we built this project from scratch. Our goal is to make a positive impact in the world with our music, and so far we have received great feedback from our new fans, that we’re bringing something unique to the SoCal nightclub scene, which highly motivates us to keep going.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We believe that trusting in each other has been a key factor in our career so far. Being a producer duo requires a lot of group decisions and communication, so we need to trust that we’re each doing the best we can for our brand. Despite our differences in lifestyles we both work on this together and we believe in each others work. Another key point in our career is to share our creativity with each other. Therefore we make sure we are feeding our creativity by doing things together so we can always be on the same page when it comes to producing music. In other words we try to translate our friendship to our songs.
