Conversations with Alicia Schrock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Schrock

Hi Alicia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my own social media agency about a year ago! I was working full time in my corporate job where I was tied to my computer from 9-5. I was doing so much for this business and I realized the aspects of it that I really enjoyed and I was good at – which was social media and content creation! I started off with my co-worker at the time, who also worked at the same company, and we started our own freelancing on the side. We worked after-hours and on the weekend to fit everything in. We worked together for a few months before we realized we were better off as friends and we each decided to split off — which is where SOCA Social was born (this was around October 2023). I still kept my corporate beauty job up until around Mid-May of 2024, I was working on SOCA the whole time still after hours, on weekends, and whenever I got an extra minute. At this point, I had a few retainer clients on SOCA for management and content creation and was actually making more income from this than I was at my actual job. I knew I couldn’t sustain doing both for much longer — so I asked for higher pay, I got offered $2 more an hour, which felt like a slap in the face, lied and said I got another higher paying job, then QUIT!

I’ve been fully self-employed since May and It’s been going amazing! I’ve grown my client base and doing more than I could’ve imagined. I’ll be looking for expand my team with a part-time employee in the near future which is more than I thought could’ve happened so soon.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some struggles along the way, was definitely balancing my freelancing with my full time job. Another challenge in the beginning was definitely deciding to split off from my co-worker that I was working with at the time, under a different business name. We both weren’t happy with how we were working together and knew it was best off for both of us if we split off.

The biggest challenge though, I think was taking the leap to leave my job to be fully self-employed. There’s still some days I doubt myself but I just know deep down that everything works out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in content creation and social media management. I think being able to fully take social media off a business’ hands is truly what sets me apart from other companies. They can be involved as little or as much as they’d like — but I plan everything from start to finish. Including sourcing models, booking locations, styling, as well as delivering high quality photos + videos.

What does success mean to you?
Hard to say for now — I think I’d be able to tell when I reach that point.
