Today we’d like to introduce you to Aventine .
Hi Aventine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Palm Springs, California, and from the very start, music played a central role in my life. My father (also a musician), even brought a keyboard into the delivery room so that music would be the first thing I ever heard. Tragically, I lost him to a heart attack when I was four years old. My mother struggled with substance abuse issues, which led to a tumultuous childhood and frequent relocations. Eventually, I found stability with my Aunt and Uncle, who took me in and provided a nurturing environment.
Despite the challenges, music remained my constant companion and my refuge. It’s through writing songs and creating that I’ve felt a deep connection to my father and have been able to express and process my experiences. The journey has been difficult, but music has been my guiding light and has shaped who I am today. I am deeply grateful for every experience that has contributed to my growth and artistry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t exactly been smooth. Although I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember, I only began seriously pursuing a music career right before finishing high school. I started building a local following in San Diego and had the amazing opportunity to perform at the House of Blues. This led to a music and management company reaching out to me with grand promises. Looking back, it’s clear that these promises were too good to be true. Young and hopeful, I joined them, only to find that every song I produced was credited to their name and generated income solely for their business. Despite assurances, I never received the promised share, and after endless broken promises and months of being ignored, we parted ways.
During this challenging time, I also lost my childhood best friend, Karmen, to suicide. This loss profoundly impacted my productivity and motivation. Seeking a fresh start, I moved back to Palm Springs and settled into a 9-to-5 job, living paycheck to paycheck and struggling through life.
It wasn’t until late 2022 that I rediscovered how crucial music was to me. I began writing songs daily and felt a renewed sense of purpose. Determined to make 2023 a turning point, I started planning shows and re-engaging with the music scene. In February, after a show in Los Angeles, I posted a few videos on Instagram and was contacted by the A&R representative from Sound Lounge Studios, who invited me for a production night session. We had previously met but hadn’t had a chance to collaborate. This decision turned out to be incredibly rewarding.
This connection led me to work with industry veteran and song/production camp pioneer, Jason Hatch, and Creative Space Events, which significantly expanded my vision and network in the music industry. I then founded my own record label, Redline Records LLC. Now, I’m fortunate to be collaborating with another industry veteran Krunkadelic, who has elevated my sound to new heights. It’s surreal to be working with some of the same people who’ve worked with my idols. I’m deeply grateful and excited about the future, and I can’t wait to share my current project with the world!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’d say my current sound pays homage to my musical icons, including Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, Halsey, Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, Dinah Washington, and Alicia Keys. I’ve always been passionate about and an avid listener of concept albums, so that’s the vision for my upcoming project as well.
My goal is to capture the essence of the music from the past decades that I cherish, and create something that bridges those influences while attracting new listeners. I truly believe that music is a universal language, resonating uniquely with each individual. It’s fascinating how two people can derive entirely different experiences from a single piece of art and find healing in it. I want to facilitate that connection, as it’s been such a crucial piece of healing for myself.
In addition to music, I have a deep passion for working on cars and drifting. I know— two completely different wheel houses (pun intended), but I also love how amazing to feels to take things apart and put them back together. I hope to eventually merge these two passions, as they are both incredibly important to me. I feel so fortunate to have worked as part of the pit crew for Team Drift Quest and to have had the opportunity to work at Formula Drift with Racetreads, the official tire sponsor of FD. Traveling around the U.S., making incredible friends, and witnessing the drivers grow in their careers has been a true blessing and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
This is just the beginning for me, and I’m constantly learning. I want to inspire girls to feel empowered and to understand that there’s a place for them in any industry. All it takes is a step forward, and something wonderful might come of it! The worst anyone can say is no, right?
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to never give up. There were several times in my life I contemplated pulling back. Between my former music partner screwing me over, losing my best friend, and trying to work to afford to live— that I really did a number on my mental state and I had a lot of learning about myself that I needed to do. While I did take a break during that period, it was through the Grace of God that I never gave up and always kept music flowing through me. If anything, that time made me more of a listener to the music that influences me so much. It kept me appreciative, together, and inspired. If I could have told myself as a little girl, lost and terrified, where I would be now— I never would have stopped or questioned myself to begin. I know I’ve always had a purpose, as do all of us, but there is no use to waste your potential. In the wise words of Hannah Montana, “Life’s what you make it, so let’s make it rock”.
