Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Escamilla
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From the Heart of San Diego: A Journey of Resilience and Passion
Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in the vibrant city of San Diego, I am a proud first-generation Mexican American, rooted in the rich traditions of my Sinoloense and Jalisciense parents. My life took an unexpected turn at the age of 20 when I became a mother, a role that shaped my journey in profound ways.
At 25, I faced the challenges of being a newly divorced young mother, navigating a world that often felt overwhelming. After a series of jobs that didn’t resonate with me, I found my calling in the Mexican regional music industry. This path allowed me to combine my love for culture and community with my professional aspirations.
I began my journey by doing promotional work, gradually building a network within the industry. I assisted with production on music videos for renowned artists like Natanel, Fuerza Regida, and Legado 7. My work took me to arenas like the Honda Center, where I developed a small following on social media by sharing my daily experiences in the music scene.
However, the loss of the artist I worked with, along with the tragic passing of my dear friend, a director, forced me to reevaluate my priorities. Seeking stability for myself and my children, I made the difficult decision to step away from the industry I had grown to love.
In 2020, I embarked on a new journey, launching my own clothing boutique. Though currently on standby, this venture reinforced my belief in pursuing passions that resonate deeply with me. I am also pursuing a degree, anticipating graduation in 2025, which reflects my commitment to personal and professional growth.
Today, I am happily married to a Colombian man from Medellín, and I’ve developed a passion for Colombian music, while still holding my roots in Mexican music close to my heart. Music is not just a career for me; it’s a tapestry woven with my family’s history, my experiences, and my hopes for the future. My journey is one of resilience, a celebration of culture, and an enduring passion for the music that flows through my veins.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey hasn’t been smooth; it has been marked by loss and the struggle to move forward while accepting that “what if” is a notion that cannot define my path.
