Hidden Gems: Meet Dagan Koffler of Dagan Design & Construction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dagan Koffler

Hi Dagan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

When I was a kid my family built the home I grew up in. My dad was an owner builder of that home we grew up in and where I spent a good chunk of my childhood on the construction site. After college I moved to NYC and was working in the wine industry and simultaneously working as a set designer for photography shoots and window displays, this is where I honed my eye for detail and creative storytelling through design. This experience laid the foundation for my journey into the world of interior design and construction. Today, as the founder of Dagan Design & Construction in Encinitas, California, I lead a team that specializes in creating custom, high-end residential homes. We are a high-end design-build company.

Many years into my construction company, I started to take on the landscape portion of our projects and made the leap to get my C-27 landscape license and started a second company that focuses on high-end landscape construction. I love the outdoors and the spaces we get to create for our clients.

With the two companies I found another niche of unique imported furniture. I went on a trip to Colombia to attend my best buddies wedding where I discovered the unique design culture of Colombia. I was drawn to the handcrafting unique techniques being used for home goods and furniture and decided to start an import company. Our focus is unique handcrafted products that tell a story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

The transition from childhood construction site to set design to founding Dagan Design & Construction wasn’t always easy—I had to learn to trust my instincts in a completely different way. Running a business meant more than just being a carpenter and designer; suddenly, I was dealing with logistics, managing a team, and making financial decisions. Finding skilled artisans, managing client expectations, and ensuring that each project came out flawlessly adding more pressure my plate. There were times when projects didn’t go as planned, and I had to adapt quickly to make sure everything still met my standards.

But the biggest struggle was staying true to my creative vision. It was a challenge to find the right balance between business growth and maintaining the craftsmanship and quality I’ve always valued. I had to learn to embrace the growing pains, and each hurdle only fueled my passion to create something meaningful, even when the path wasn’t always clear.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Dagan Design & Construction Inc. was established in 2012, focusing on luxury and custom homes and home renovations in the coastal towns of North County San Diego. DDC has established a team that all share the same passion and drive to create the highest quality homes.

Dagan Design and Construction, Inc. is a custom design and build firm. We work on design only, build only, and both (our speciality). We love bringing our vision for the home to life and creating a functional, aesthetic space for our clients. Starting out as a construction only company, we faced our challenges with designers and tried to bring their visions to life, while mediating between designer and client. While we still love to work on projects with designers, we have found a special niche when designing and building the project ourselves. It allows us to ensure the client receives the best possible service with expediency.

At Dagan Design and Construction we are committed to pay attention to every detail in every phase of the project, from conceptualization to completion. With our in house team of carpenters, designers, and landscapers, we are able to bounce ideas off each other and create the best possible design and build. We are a collective team of talented designers and craftsmen that strive to design and build lasting custom unique homes.

How do you define success?

In the ever evolving industry of construction and design, where trends come and go, one fundamental factor behind being successful in this industry is the importance of quality craftsmanship. I knew if I wanted to be successful, I would need to truly understand the fundamental skills I learned from my past experiences.  Eventually, this path led to becoming a general contractor and opening my own firm, Dagan Design and Construction.

It was important for me to base my company around quality craftsmanship that create spaces that inspire others. This involves curating a skilled team who are not only experts in their respective fields, but also passionate about their craft. From master carpenters to experienced masons to innovative designers, we cultivated a team of individuals who take pride in their work and strive for perfection.
