Conversations with Reagan Cable

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reagan Cable

Hi Reagan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the non-profit event world working gala’s, tournaments, donor events, fundraisers, etc. While I loved this space, I was ready to be more independent in my work. I got into the Master’s program that I am currently in, and so it felt like a good time to “become my own boss” and take the leap into the wedding industry. I had a few friends ask me to coordinate their weddings, and I really loved doing that. My husband encouraged me to start something new and I finally decided to start Eden Events. I launched the business in January of 2023. The new business allowed me to be flexible with work hours, start as a master’s student, and take care of my daughter, all while planning weddings! I started through instagram, built a website, and had friends help spread the word for me. It helped that I had content from previous friends’ weddings that I coordinated, as well as from my own wedding. My husband and I got married during COVID and had to postpone our wedding. We finally got to do a reception with family and friends 1 year after getting married, and having to plan both weddings sparked a lot of interest in the wedding industry for me. During late 2023, I got a wedding business coach and had the busiest wedding season, doing 10+ weddings in 3 months. I learned so much, struggled with difficult clients, enjoyed amazing clients, and learned so much about attracting my “ideal” couple. It was such a formative year. This year I feel like I have much more experience under my belt and systems in place so that the wedding planning process is much more streamlined. I’m growing in confidence and love getting to work with other wedding vendors in SD county. It’s been a challenging and beautiful journey so far!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not the smoothest road. I got pregnant September of 2023 and then struggled through the first trimester, all while having the busiest wedding season of my career! I was exhausted but wanted to put my best food forward for all of my couples. The season ended well, but I was definitely worn out!

It’s difficult to balance family and owning your own business. You work long hours and always have things on your mind. I want to do the best for my couples as well as be present with my family, so this is a constant tug on my heart. I love when couples are gracious with having kids at home in the background of meetings! It’s not always glamorous but it’s worth it.

Another struggle is learning how to charge my couples’ with what my time is worth. How do you quantify that?? It’s tricky, and sometimes discouraging when you are out of couples’ budgets. But when you find a client who is willing to pay for your services willingly, it’s super encouraging and a great reminder to be patient for the ideal couple!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an experienced event planner, which a niche for the details and making you feel seen and cared for, even in the most stressful of times. I am in school to become a Marriage and Family therapist, so engaged couples have a special place in my heart. Engagement is such a formative time in your life, and I want my couples’ to feel like their wedding details are taken care of so they can focus on building a healthy marriage and enjoy being engaged. I am not obsessive over things that don’t matter. What you care about, I care about.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I highly recommend finding a business coach who specializes in your trade. Investing in my business coach was the best decision I’ve made for my business, hands down. She helped me build systems, answered hard questions, encouraged me when I felt defeated, and set a healthy example of work/life balance. Shoutout to @beccakristinetuttle!

As far as networking goes, I believe in just doing what you can! If you can attend an event and have the mental capacity to show up for it, do it! Saying yes to those opportunities allows you to meet people. I always think that genuine relationships push you further than the fake ones, so don’t try to manufacture anything if it doesn’t feel right. You’ll find the other vendors who are the right fit for you!
