Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Adame
Hi Denise, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Where did it all begin? I started creating content for brands back in 2019. I remember receiving my very first product—some slime! I was new to it all, snapping a photo with my one-year-old (who’s now six!), and I honestly had no idea what I was doing. But that small start eventually led me to work with brands like Maybelline, Sacheau Beauty, The Ordinary, and more.
It wasn’t always easy. I was learning as I went, gradually building confidence in my photography skills and developing the ability to create videos quickly and effectively. But then, I hit a major setback: my Instagram account was hacked in 2023, and I lost everything. It was discouraging, and I almost gave up. But I decided to start over, and strangely enough, it’s turned out even better this time around.
Now, I create TikToks and Reels for brands, receive inbound requests almost daily, and connect with some incredible people right here in San Diego. It’s been an amazing journey from slime to big brands!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy. As I mentioned, my account was hacked, and when you work in content creation or social media, something like that can be devastating. I made sure to get verified with Meta to prevent it from happening again.
As much as I love creating content, it’s a constant effort. I’m essentially working seven days a week. In addition to my main job at a shade sail company, I’m always responding to emails, shooting content, editing videos, and writing captions. It’s a lot to juggle, but it’s all part of the commitment!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create UGC (user-generated content) for brands, which means I produce photos and videos for them, often in exchange for products. This work has opened so many doors—connecting me with new brands, giving me early access to products launching in stores, and, of course, providing paid opportunities.
My handle, MamaSoCal, is known for lifestyle videos featuring my daughters, though I’ve recently been shifting focus toward beauty, lifestyle content, and my new business, Foto Bloom Photo Booth. I pride myself on being versatile; I’ve collaborated with over 200 brands in the past few years and can adapt to work with just about anyone.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Where do I see myself in 5-10 years? Honestly, I’d love to be fully self-employed, running my own business on my own schedule and calling the shots. Right now, I’m happy with where I am, but each year, my goal is to keep improving—for myself, my business, and my family.
