Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Hernandez
Hi Monica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in San Diego. After I graduated from Eastlake High school in Chula Vista, I started working for a bank. I became the youngest employee in back office operations and quickly moved up in different financial institutions throughout my career in that field all while finishing my degree. I got married to my husband Herik and we have two sons and a dog.
In 2021 I left my career in banking to homeschool our children and we were able to launch our business, an event planning business. This was something that had been a hobby of mine for many years before. Since the launch, we have done events for as many as 1000 guests in attendance to as little as 10 guests. I love God, I love my family, I love people, and I love a good party around a dinner table.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. It was one with lots of up hill battles, cold, dark at times, and bumps along the way. I dug myself into holes that pride wouldn’t allow myself to come out of. I was also a control freak, I had anxieties, and I was very insecure. I didn’t want people to know the real me because I wanted people to like me- I wanted the gratification of being seen while claiming to be authentic and I was far from it back then. I didn’t realize at the time, but I was so empty inside. This caused so many struggles in relationships and my work/life balance. I struggled with the thoughts of “Am I good enough?” and “There are people way better and way more qualified than me.” But God.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of MH Party Planning
My business was birthed out of a life long hobby. I loved planning parties and events since I was a little girl. When I left banking, I knew it was time to step into this field. I knew from the beginning this business was going to have a Christ centered foundation. I pray before every event. I pray for my clients, their venue spaces, the vendors, and the people in attendance.
We design, execute, and coordinate to bring your dream event to reality.
We provide our clients the most unique experience through an innovative and creative approach all while delivering attention to detail.
Our top priorities are the relationship we have with our clients and the ability to interpret their hearts desire. This gives us the ability to provide a peace of mind experience that exceeds their expectations.
We have done large scale events and small events from conferences to weddings and baby showers to intimate dinner parties.
What we are known for is simply the custom dinner table designs. I think of every event as unique as a thumbprint. It may look the same at a quick glance but up close there is a customization to it. At every dinner table there are stories to be shared, conversations to be had, and connections to be made. An inviting dinner table always sets the stage for this type of fellowship.
We offer full planning packages, hybrid packaging, design, consulting, and day of coordinating services. Last year we launched Party in a Box which is one of our favorite items on the menu. Party in a box is a customized basic or premium package to build your intimate dinner party around the table. Our goal for these are to offer you the gift of fellowship and connection around a beautiful designed table created by the client. Not creative? That’s ok! The box includes a video tutorial. Our clients have created masterpieces out of these boxes and allowed their creativity to flourish and we love seeing the pictures they send us.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First, All glory to God.
My amazing husband Herik for giving me his yes for me to quit my banking career so I could homeschool our babies and pursue my passion. For loving me so deeply and beautifully even when I thought I wasn’t worthy and for pushing me to just keep going.
My incredible parents for always supporting my dreams and passions and being my advocates.
My pastors, church family, Pathfinders team and so many others who have stood in prayer, believed with me, continued cheering for me, and mentoring me. For encouraging me to keep my foot on the gas pedal, and to always be generous with my testimony.
