Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Goldberg
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in the mortgage industry back in 2009, though it wasn’t where I thought I’d end up. At the time, I was working retail, managing teams, and training managers. I asked about moving into management myself, and the response—“losing you would be like losing three employees”—made me realize I needed a career change. My dad, who had been in lending for years, suggested I join him. Initially, I resisted. Eventually, after a short stint as a personal banker that wasn’t a great fit, I gave it a shot.
At first, I worked behind the scenes, unpaid, learning the ropes by shadowing my dad and doing everything from typing emails to observing transactions. When I finally stepped into the role, it was all about solving tough problems—helping buyers in challenging situations and saving deals others couldn’t close. That early experience of being creative, working with builders, and earning trust in a tough market shaped my approach.
Fast forward to today, I’ve built a business that’s about more than just loans. My team and I focus on providing a smooth, transparent, and highly personalized experience. We combine financial education, creative problem-solving, and strong relationships with clients and partners to make the home-buying process as stress-free and rewarding as possible. It’s been a journey of perseverance, adaptability, and always putting people first.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey worthwhile. Early on, I was thrown into the deep end, working on tough deals in a difficult market—helping clients with foreclosures, short sales, or unique financial challenges. It taught me a lot about problem-solving but also showed me how unpredictable and complex this business can be.
One of the biggest struggles was carving out my own identity in the industry. Starting out with my dad, I felt the need to prove I belonged and wasn’t just “handed” a role. That meant a lot of long hours, relentless learning, and earning trust by delivering results.
Market shifts have also been a challenge. The highs and lows, especially during the 2020 pandemic, tested everyone in the business. I had to pivot quickly to stay ahead—whether it was dealing with rapid rate changes, tight inventory, or educating clients navigating an overwhelming amount of misinformation online. I’ve always believed in adapting to the market rather than resisting it, which has been key to weathering those storms.
Through it all, the toughest part has been balancing the need to grow the business with staying hands-on to deliver a stellar client experience. It’s not easy to scale without sacrificing quality, but I’ve built a system and team to help make that possible. Every struggle has taught me something new and ultimately made me better at what I do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a mortgage strategist, but I see my role as much more than just helping people secure a loan. My work is about creating solutions that align with my clients’ goals, educating them on the process, and ensuring they feel confident and cared for every step of the way.
I specialize in creative financing strategies, working with buyers in all kinds of situations—first-time homebuyers, self-employed individuals, and those with unique financial needs. I’m known for simplifying complex scenarios, guiding clients through their options, and delivering a smooth, stress-free experience. A big part of what I do is helping my clients not just buy a home but also set themselves up for long-term financial success.
What sets me apart is my focus on personalization and transparency. Every client receives a custom pre-approval presentation that breaks down their financing options in detail, including payments, closing costs, and strategies like buy-downs or bridge loans. I also prioritize proactive communication, keeping clients, agents, and all stakeholders aligned so everyone feels confident in the process. My goal is to make sure my clients—and their agents—never have to worry about the financing.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients and partners. Many of my referrals come from people who’ve had a great experience and want their friends and family to experience the same. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I’ve made such a positive impact that clients feel excited to share my name.
Ultimately, I strive to provide more than just a loan. I want every client to feel empowered and supported, knowing they’re working with someone who truly has their best interests at heart. That’s what drives me every day.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about San Diego is the lifestyle—it’s such an amazing balance of vibrant city life and outdoor living. The weather is unbeatable, of course, but it’s more than just sunshine. There’s always something to do here, from exploring the coastline and hiking trails to enjoying incredible food and live events. The energy of the city is relaxed yet productive, and it’s a place where it feels easy to connect with people and build relationships.
What I like least? Probably the cost of living—it’s no secret that it’s expensive here, especially in the housing market. While it’s a great place to live, it can be challenging for families trying to buy their first home. That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about what I do—helping people navigate those challenges and find solutions to make their dream of living in San Diego a reality.
