Today we’d like to introduce you to Farah George
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Unofficially/unprofessionally, I started as a young girl looking through her mother’s makeup vanity and wearing it in secret even if it meant getting caught. Eventually I did get caught but it didn’t diminish my love for makeup. As I got older, as a preteen I started wearing false eyelashes and had everyone fooled that they were my real lashes. Finally, when I turned 18, I enrolled myself into a cosmetology school and paid for it using my allowance money that I had saved up. My teacher was shocked that I enrolled for the purpose of just wanting the credentials to work for MAC Cosmetics (when it was the coolest job and most sought after makeup store) and not so much to work at a salon as most students’ goal was. Cosmetology school had its hardships but I persevered and finally got a job as a MAC makeup artist after many failed attempts. I simultaneously started my own freelance makeup business and gained almost the entire city’s business. The pandemic hit unfortunately and many clients moved on and I still stand here as a freelance makeup artist, YouTuber, influencer, and digital creator. Perseverance is key to any successful project. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I’ve mentioned earlier, it has most definitely not been a smooth road by any means especially now as competition is growing in an unfathomable rate. Given the pandemic and the number of competitors makes it even more challenging but nothing I can’t and haven’t been able to overcome and still overcoming. Not to mention, many of my followers have been inspired and now work in the beauty industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a freelance makeup artist with many credentials. I have a certificate/license from an accredited cosmetology school, Makeup by Mario and Kim Kardashian, Sephora certification (you can’t apply makeup at the beauty studio despite having a license and must be certified by a senior artist), MAC certifications (quite a few that not all receive and not many people are familiar with), and a Chanel Artist. What sets me apart is my ability to create content regularly despite being busy with life and the fact that I have a degree in psychology. Furthermore, I get hired to do pretty much any look, Arabic makeup, bridal glam, special fx (think creating wounds/bruises/movie characters), airbrush (think face and body painting), mature skin, Asian eye makeup, literally ANY look you’re going for. I can switch up your identity.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
The hard work and dedication it takes to be strong enough to post yourself vulnerably online and continuing to do so despite the constant bullying and harassment from trolling accounts. Influencing is not for the weak let me tell you from personal experience. I donate a lot also and will work with most budgets because I believe in good deeds.
