Hi Cryssel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’d like to share my entrepreneurial journey, which has been instrumental in shaping my resilience and determination. After completing beauty school in 2018, I launched my business, initially as ‘Mami’s Lashes,’ offering five styles of strip lashes at an affordable price of $5 each. My kids would even help me sell them and put orders together. As the business grew, I started participating in pop-up events, which helped increase brand visibility.
In 2019, I took a significant leap by launching my own makeup palette and rebranding my business as ‘Mami’s Beauty.’ This expansion led to increased sales, a growing client base, and even a feature in a magazine. My primary goal was to provide customers with cruelty-free, vegan products at economical prices, ensuring they were long-lasting and easy to use.
Fast-forward to 2024, I faced another setback with the loss of my job of nearly six years. However, I refused to let adversity define me. Instead, I chose to revive my business, rebranding it as ‘CrysselMakeup.’ I gained a new job in the medical field, created new products, including brown lashes – a unique offering that sets me apart – and expanded my line to include a blush palette and makeup brushes.
Throughout this journey, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and staying true to my values. My long-term goals include expanding my business in Mexico, where I plan to relocate in the near future, and establishing a makeup school to teach and empower others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
However, 2020 brought unprecedented challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic forced me to shut down my newly opened beauty studio, and sales plummeted. I also faced personal struggles, including a domestic abuse relationship and the loss of custody of my children. These difficulties led to a deep depression, causing me to neglect my business and overall well-being.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am professional makeup artist and beauty educator. I stopped freelancing and decided to focus on teaching and my small business. I offer one on one makeup lessons and or group sessions as well. My small business consists of lashes, makeup palettes, makeup brushes and beauty accessories.
Two things that makes my business unique is that I offer brown lashes and I believe I’m the only small business who offers them and also I created a website for Mexico shoppers where they can shop my products.
What I am most proud of my brand is the uniqueness I bring to it. I offer products clients have never seen but are also afraid to try which is okay. My prices are very economical which I get a lot of compliments on that. I know times are tough right now and I care about my clients needs and wants so I want them to shop without worrying about spending a fortune.

Ultimately, my journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, self-care, and staying committed to my passions. I’m proud of the woman I’ve become and the entrepreneur I’m evolving into. I want to be the best I can be for myself and of course for my kids. Even though they are miles and hours away, I do all of this for them, for their future. And I hope I motivate them to keep going, to keep working hard no matter what obstacle they have to overcome. I’m doing this alone, faced all my emotional difficulties and hardships alone and I know they can too.
