Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Robertson
Hi Allie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began DJing in 2020 while living in Los Angeles. Like many creative passions, it started as a fun hobby—playing at friends’ parties and local events. But soon, I realized I had a natural gift for connecting people through music. Reading the crowd felt like solving an exciting puzzle, and I became obsessed with understanding how to create the perfect vibe. I’d observe everything—age, demographics, body language, the energy of the room, and the overall mood of the event—and use those insights to curate a musical vibe that resonated with everyone. The more I DJed, the more I wanted to refine my craft. Driven by a desire to grow, I sought out a mentor who could help me elevate my skills and take my passion for music to the next level.
That mentor was the incredible DJ Kara, who has over a decade of experience and has performed alongside artists like D-Nice and Alicia Keys. Training under Kara was a game changer—she not only taught me the technical side of DJing, but also the business acumen needed to succeed in the industry. Her guidance was invaluable, especially as I navigated the transition to a full-time career.
Just as I was honing my skills, the entertainment scene began to reopen post-COVID, and there was a huge demand for live events. I quickly found opportunities to DJ for a variety of clients, from corporate conferences and festivals to weddings and private parties. The market was eager to celebrate and reconnect, and I was able to meet that need.
My business has always grown through word-of-mouth recommendations, which has led me to some incredible opportunities. I’ve had the privilege of DJing at events like the rooftop of Caesars Palace, Hangout Fest, and private parties for brands like Sephora. In 2022, I teamed up with a crew to launch “The Taylor Party,” a series of Taylor Swift-themed dance events. With Taylor’s Eras tour gaining massive momentum, these parties took off, and I found myself touring the U.S. and Canada, performing to crowds of 1,000+ people. To date, I’ve thrown nearly 90 shows across the U.S. and parts of Canada, learning how to create an electric atmosphere and connect with large crowds in a unique way.
I’m incredibly grateful for the journey so far and feel deeply honored to bring people together through music and dance. Whether it’s a wedding, a festival, or a themed party, I’m always thrilled to create experiences that bring joy to people and help them make memories that last a lifetime.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been without its challenges. DJing can be a solitary path, and there are times when it feels isolating—whether I’m hauling gear from gig to gig or flying across the country, far from friends and family. Yet, despite these moments of solitude, I choose not to focus on the hardships, because the passion I have for what I do outweighs the struggles. Over time, I’ve learned to find balance by staying connected to my community during the week, grounding myself in relationships and experiences that remind me of what truly matters.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a DJ, my focus is always on my clients and their needs. I learned early on that letting ego dictate my approach wouldn’t take me far. It’s not about me being the “expert” on what’s good music—it’s about collaborating with people to create the best possible experience for them. Every event is different, so the music I play evolves based on the crowd, the vibe, and the atmosphere I’m trying to create. I love weaving in niche house tracks to set a sexy, upscale vibe, but I also recognize that sometimes the right song—like “I Will Survive”—is exactly what’s needed to bring everyone together on the dance floor. I’m known for my ability to read a room and curate the perfect set, always prioritizing the energy and enjoyment of the crowd.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is about living a balanced life where I am equally passionate and driven in both my work and personal pursuits. A key aspect of success is staying true to my moral compass—because if I were to achieve “success” at the expense of integrity, I wouldn’t consider it true success. True success, for me, is rooted in authenticity and balance, both externally and internally.
