Conversations with Sarah Strong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Strong

Hi Sarah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started working in fitness in 2012 and absolutely fell in love with empowering others to find their strength. I started working in commercial gyms but eventually started my own training business in 2014. It allows me to keep my prices affordable and reach more people. I competed in powerlifting for over 8 years, and I incorporate a lot of compound movements and barbell work for my clients. I love seeing a client lift a weight they didn’t think they could.
My speciality in training in coaching women, particularly pre- and post-natal women. I was able to continue exercising throughout both of my pregnancies, even competing in powerlifting while pregnant with my youngest. I have had the opportunity to coach dozens of pregnant and post-natal women to help them have healthier pregnancies and strong bodies to play with their kids as they grow. To me, exercise is something we do because we love our bodies, not because we hate them. We train our bodies to keep up with our active lives, and to be able to live long, happy lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a small business owner can be a challenge, and the pandemic was especially challenging. During that time, I expanded my business to online coaching. I had to adapt to what my clients’ needs were, and it has paid off. I now offer both in-person coaching as well as online coaching. It allows me to reach more people, especially those who aren’t local to my area.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
There are a lot of personal trainers out there, but many use cookie-cutter programs for everyone. I pride myself in really getting to know my clients and customizing their workouts. I also have the experience and education to back my training. I am constantly reading and staying up-to-date on new training techniques.
I’m also a person who really listens and cares about her clients. I’m not one to yell, punish you with burpees, or chastise you for a bad week. Yes, I will keep you accountable, but I also bring empathy and understanding.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I grew up playing sports, with softball being the one I dedicated the most time to. I loved being out on the field and focusing on the game. It taught me to have a physical outlet, and it also taught me hard work, consistency, and discipline.
