Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Cimins
Hi Barbara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my glass fusion journey in January 2023. A friend told me about a glass class in December 2022 at a local school and mentioned a new term was starting in January so I signed up for the class. From the 1st class I was hooked. I didn’t know what to make or the technique but seeing the results from my first project I knew this is what I wanted to do. I have been attending classes mostly for technique but I also invested in a kiln and I do a lot of work on my own time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are some challenges in creating glass art and mostly that’s making something that didn’t turn out like you had hoped. The great thing about fusing glass is everything is reusable. Even the smaller pieces of glass can be used and refired. The biggest enemy of a glass artist is the wind. The other is sharp glass. You are always bound to cut yourself trying to create art.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do glass fusion. Its creating art with glass and trying your best to make something appealing to others. Its a process of creating, firing and sometimes shaping. I am most proud of how the people around me, who find my work something they want to take home and share. I think my style sets me apart from other artists. While we are always trying to create something magnificent, the work we put out has to be appealing to others. I create with others in mind.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
That I am creating something for others. I want that person to be proud of their purchase and be happy they made the decision to buy it.
