Today we’d like to introduce you to Myrna Elguezabal
Hi Myrna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I think event planning had always been in my nature. As a kid, I loved organizing our family’s celebrations. I put together a full program, assigned performances, coordinated routines, and kept the chaos (mostly) under control. It was just kid stuff, but even then, I genuinely enjoyed bringing everything together and making sure things ran smoothly. Let’s just say I’ve always been considered ‘bossy’—haha!
Later in life, while living in Spain, I stumbled upon a job posting for a corporate event coordinator. The role involved traveling across Europe and covering events for different industries. I applied, thinking I wouldn’t get it since I had no previous experience—but I did. And the rest was history.
This job and period of time changed the course of my life. I found a career I loved and was good at, met some of my closest friends, and discovered the world of wine.
Coming from a conservative family, wine was never part of our table (and still isn’t!), when I discovered it I found everything about it fascinating. The rich culture surrounding wine, along with the stories of the land and the people that shape what’s in the bottle, forever captivated me.
I started signing up for weekly tastings and courses (my first was a three-month deep dive into Catalan wines), reading wine books, and dragging my husband to wineries and wine regions. My journey with wine began in 2007, and for years, it remained a personal passion.
I continued working in events while expanding my wine knowledge—earning WSET certifications 1, 2, and 3, the Spanish Wine Scholar title, and becoming a Sherry Wine Specialist. Now, I’m also diving into the Champagne Master Course. Along the way, I was drawn to the magic of Mexican spirits, a reflection of my heritage that I also wanted to explore.
After many well-traveled, sometimes challenging, but always fun years in corporate events, in 2022 I decided to merge my two worlds—events and wine & spirits. That’s how The Wine Voyage was born: to create unique, engaging experiences that bring people together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and yes, I’ve faced challenges and will continue to. But my biggest challenge was simply getting started. It was internal, rooted in my personal fears. I wasn’t afraid of the hard work, the responsibilities or the new skills I’d need to learn—I was scared of putting myself out there in the world. I was scared of taking that first step.

The Wine Voyage is all about bringing people together through wine and spirits in a way that’s interactive, engaging, and, most importantly, fun. We specialize in unique team-building experiences, for any sized group, that go beyond just tasting—we create moments that connect people through the stories, culture, and craftsmanship behind every bottle.
What sets us apart? We don’t do cookie-cutter tastings. Every experience is customized to the group and group size—whether it’s a competitive blind tasting, a hands-on blending session, or a deep dive into Mexican agave spirits. And since we travel to any location, it’s easy to integrate our experiences into corporate events, retreats, or private gatherings.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of creating a space where anyone—regardless of their knowledge or interest in wine and spirits—feels intrigued and excited to explore. I wanted to strip away the intimidation and snobbery and showcase these beverages for what they are: products of the land and human hands, rich in history and culture. My goal was to spark curiosity, foster connection, and make wine something fun and approachable for people—and seeing that happen time and time again is what makes me most proud of The Wine Voyage.
How do you think about happiness?
Oh, there’s so, so much that makes me happy—spending time with loved ones, reading, writing, traveling, hiking, cooking… the list goes on!
But professionally, what makes me happiest is seeing how an idea that sparked during a trip—became a business. I still remember the first time I received a signed contract; I wanted to pinch myself, and honestly, I still do every time. Knowing that I pushed past my insecurities and just went for it is something I’m really proud of. And after every event, when I see people connecting, laughing, and actually being present instead of glued to their phones—that’s the best feeling.
