Meet Kate Kortis of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Kortis

Hi Kate, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When the war in Ukraine started, my family and I moved to Germany. There, I began making jewelry as a way to relieve stress, relax, and distract myself from the terrible news. But after two years, we moved to America. Until then, my business was more of a hobby. In the U.S., I decided to take it seriously, scale it, and turn it into a real business.

Today, I can’t say I have a huge company, but at least I have an official business name which is Kate Kortis jewelry and my Instagram account. My jewelry is beautiful and high-quality, and I clearly understand my target customer and their needs. I want to help women feel more beautiful and confident, to understand what they need and how to enhance their style with my jewelry.

Besides all this, I am also a personal stylist, so I work in different directions, helping women to form their wardrobes from the very beginning including jewelry as a great way to elevate your everyday outfits. I’m very happy to share my story with you!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a new hobby and turning it into a business while your country is going through a terrible tragedy like war is, in itself, a huge challenge. But despite everything, I found inspiration in making jewelry. It helped me stay strong mentally and emotionally, giving me the strength to keep moving forward.

When I arrived in America, I was really surprised at how quickly I was able to start my company. Now, I’m gradually working on promoting myself everywhere. Of course, there are challenges, especially when it comes to advertising—it’s incredibly expensive here in the U.S. To get noticed, you have to invest a lot of money in marketing. Unfortunately, at this moment, I don’t have a big budget for that.

But I believe everything will be okay—I’m hopeful!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been working as a personal stylist for almost nine years. I help women build their wardrobes from scratch and achieve their goals through style. I also teach them how to become their own stylists and offer personal shopping assistance.

I truly love my work, and my jewelry—what once started as a hobby and has now become a business—is also an essential part of my professional journey. So I can provide full range of beauty service

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just do what you really love to do, what inspires you.
