Today we’d like to introduce you to GodSon Obas.
Hi GodSon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is GodSon Obas, and I’m a fitness professional, content creator, and online coach originally from West Africa, Nigeria, now based here in San Diego, CA. My journey into fitness and entrepreneurship wasn’t a straight line—it was built over years of discipline, learning, and personal growth.
One of my earliest inspirations came from home. Growing up, I watched my mother take care of our family while still making time to focus on her own health. I clearly remember when she made the intentional decision to lose weight and get healthier—all while working hard, raising us, and managing the demands of family life. That’s no easy feat, and seeing her commitment to self-improvement planted a seed in me at a young age. It showed me that no matter how busy or difficult life gets, your well-being should never take a back seat.
Fast forward to my college years—I initially started working out to have an outlet while balancing school, work, and the challenges of life. What began as a hobby quickly evolved into a passion and eventually became a lifestyle. Over time, I realized how much fitness was transforming me—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. It became a tool for structure, accountability, and self-development.
While working professionally as an electrical engineer, I continued to build my knowledge in fitness, training consistently, and helping people around me. I saw how many individuals struggled with accountability and structure—not because they lacked motivation but because they lacked guidance and a clear plan. That’s when I launched GodSon Fitness—to help people take control of their fitness goals, build discipline, and transform both their mindset and physique.
I began creating content on Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms, sharing honest, real, and actionable fitness advice. Alongside that, I started offering personalized online coaching to help people achieve sustainable results without gimmicks or shortcuts. My mission has always been simple: Fitness isn’t just something you pick up—it’s a lifestyle.
Today, I’m proud to say that I’ve worked with a diverse range of clients from all over the world — including those based in America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Helping people across different backgrounds and cultures achieve their fitness goals has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. It’s a reminder that no matter where you’re from, the desire to become better — physically and mentally — is universal.
The journey hasn’t always been smooth—but every lesson, challenge, and setback has shaped me into the man I am today. And it all started with the example my mother set for me when I was younger.
I’m still evolving, and my mission remains the same: to empower others to become the best version of themselves, one workout, one decision, and one mindset shift at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all—it’s been anything but smooth. Like many people chasing something meaningful, I’ve faced my fair share of setbacks, pressure, and personal challenges.
One of the biggest struggles was balancing multiple identities at once—being a full-time electrical engineer while also growing GodSon Fitness on the side. There were long nights, early mornings, and moments where I questioned whether it was all going to work. At times, I felt like I was pouring into everyone else while forgetting to refill my own cup.
Another challenge was the mental side of entrepreneurship. When you’re building something from the ground up—especially in the online space—you deal with doubt, comparison, and the pressure to be consistent even when motivation is low. Showing up on camera, writing programs, engaging with clients, staying disciplined in my own training—all of it requires a level of energy and focus that not everyone sees behind the scenes.
Financially, in the beginning, I was investing in tools, programs, certifications, and content with no guaranteed return. I had to bet on myself before anyone else would. And being an immigrant, there were cultural and systemic barriers that made the path a little less straightforward—but those challenges gave me grit.
Every setback has taught me something, though. Whether it was a plateau in business, a physical injury, or moments of burnout—each one pushed me to get sharper, more strategic, and more grounded in my purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the founder of GodSon Fitness, a fitness lifestyle brand and online coaching platform that focuses on helping people build sustainable strength—physically, mentally, and emotionally. I specialize in online training programs tailored to individuals’ specific goals, whether it’s fat loss, lean muscle growth, beginner transformations, or simply creating structure and discipline around fitness.
What I’m most known for—especially on platforms like Instagram and YouTube—is my no-nonsense, realistic approach to fitness. I don’t sell gimmicks or shortcuts. I give people the truth: that real change takes time, consistency, and a mindset shift. Whether I’m showing form breakdowns, quick tips, or deep dives into nutrition and lifestyle habits, my goal is always to educate and empower.
I’m especially proud of the results my clients have achieved—not just physically, but in how they carry themselves, how they approach life, and how fitness has helped them unlock a better version of themselves. Some have never stepped foot in a gym before. Others were athletes who needed to get back on track. Each one has a story, and being part of that transformation is what keeps me going.
What sets me apart is that I understand both worlds—I come from a technical, engineering background, so I’m very detail-oriented, but I also bring passion, empathy, and real-life experience into every plan and interaction. I don’t just coach bodies—I coach humans, and I bring authenticity to everything I do.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Definitely. I’m big on mindset and structure, so I try to feed myself the same way I train—consistently and with purpose.
In terms of apps, I use Google Calendar religiously to keep my days organized and balanced between engineering work, content creation, and client coaching. I also use MyFitnessPal and Strong for tracking nutrition and workouts—both for myself and when helping clients stay on track.
As for books, a few that have really shaped me are:
Atomic Habits by James Clear – for understanding how small actions shape our identity
Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins – for mental toughness and discipline
The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson – a reminder that the smallest consistent steps add up
The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida – for developing emotional presence, purpose, and masculine leadership in both life and relationships
For podcasts, I like listening to The Mindset Mentor by Rob Dial and The Ed Mylett Show. Both help me reset and stay focused on growth, not just in business but in how I show up as a man, coach, and creator.
Honestly, though, one of my best resources is my own self-check-ins. Taking quiet time to reflect, adjust, and stay aligned with my purpose is something I’ve learned to prioritize—especially when life gets noisy.
