Exploring Life & Business with Jackai Yip of Our BirthRoom LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackai Yip.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was in my third trimester when I took the hospital tour that changed everything. As a Physician Assistant, nothing surprised me medically—the protocols, the machines, the layout—I knew it all. But something felt off. The dim lighting, the sterile energy, the construction dust. Instead of feeling reassured, I walked back to my car rubbing my belly, feeling a deep, unsettling sense that this wasn’t the place I wanted to birth my baby. I couldn’t shake the thought: Why am I going through the motions of a birth I’m not even at peace with?

That moment sparked a fire in me. I went home and dove headfirst into researching natural birth. I stayed up late reading empowering stories, combing through data, and learning everything I could about physiologic birth. When I shared my heart with my husband, he was nervous but supportive. My mom? Shockingly on board. Her and my grandma’s stories gave me the courage to believe I could do it too. It wasn’t just a mindset shift—it was a whole new direction. And that’s when I realized: real change happens when you take one brave step outside your comfort zone.

We went on to have a beautiful, peaceful birth—and it changed us forever. That experience lit a fire in both of us. We felt called to become childbirth educators, became certified in the Bradley Method, and started sharing what we learned with friends. Soon, that “just helping people” feeling turned into a deeper mission. I realized this work wasn’t just personal—it was purposeful. That’s when I founded Our BirthRoom—to empower more parents to feel what we felt: informed, supported, and confident. Because birth isn’t just something you go through—it’s something you can own.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Definitely not—but every bump has shaped the heart behind Our BirthRoom.

In the beginning, I carried a deep burden to help every single family. I was answering every email, staying up late to respond to questions—while raising babies of my own. We were teaching childbirth classes out of our living room with toddlers wandering in and out of sessions. It was beautiful… and exhausting. When the pandemic hit, everything came to a halt. We couldn’t meet in person anymore, and my business took a serious hit.

That’s when we realized we had to adapt. We pivoted to virtual lessons so we could still support our families in real time. After my fourth child, I knew something had to change. I needed to serve families well without burning out. That’s when I created our online course—so clients could access high-quality education at their own pace, while still offering in-person sessions for the accountability, consistency, and personal connection that make our program so unique.

As you know, we’re big fans of Our BirthRoom LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our BirthRoom is a childbirth education company rooted in faith, family, and empowerment. We specialize in equipping first-time parents—and those healing from past birth trauma—with the knowledge, advocacy tools, and partner support they need for a safe and satisfying birth. We’re especially known for training birth partners to become “Daddy Doulas,” so they’re not just in the room—they’re confidently supporting, advocating, and working with labor, not against it.

What sets us apart is the balance of professional and personal. I’m a Physician Assistant and Certified Bradley Method Educator, and my husband Stephen is a Family Medicine Physician. Together, we’ve had four natural births—and we teach together. That’s one of the best parts of Our BirthRoom. Our students learn from a real-life husband-and-wife team who have seen birth from both sides: the clinical and the personal. It’s rare to find a class like ours—and couples consistently say that learning from both of us makes all the difference.

Our signature offering, Our BirthRoom Academy, is a comprehensive 12-week program that blends on-demand education with personalized coaching, guided labor practice, and partner training. We teach families how to maintain a healthy pregnancy, manage labor efficiently, avoid unnecessary interventions, and advocate for the birth they want. We also offer free resources and mini courses to meet families wherever they are in their journey.

We’re incredibly proud of our student outcomes: since 2014, every full-term baby born to our families has had a healthy birth weight. 99% of families who chose home birth had vaginal births without complications, and 85% of couples who birthed in the hospital did so without a c-section. We’ve only seen one case of preeclampsia among our students—and that speaks volumes about the power of preparation, support, and informed decision-making.

What I’m most proud of? Watching our students walk away with more than just birth knowledge—they leave feeling connected, confident, and fully equipped to own their birth story.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you’re an expecting parent (or know someone who is), the best way to work with us is through Our BirthRoom Academy. It’s our signature 12-week program that trains couples to prepare for birth as a team—with expert guidance, partner coaching, and real-time support. We also offer shorter mini courses and free resources through our website.

You can also find us on YouTube (@ourbirthroom), where we share practical tips, mini-lessons, and encouragement for every step of the parenthood journey. If you’re navigating pregnancy, birth, or postpartum—you’ll get the confidence-building content you didn’t even know you needed.

For those interested in collaboration—whether you’re a birth worker, wellness professional, or part of a parenting or healthcare community—we’re always open to meaningful partnerships that align with our mission: helping families feel confident, supported, and informed.

And if you simply want to support the work—we’d love for you to share Our BirthRoom with your community. Every referral, repost, and kind word helps us reach the families who need this most. Because birth doesn’t just change one person—it transforms generations.
