Check Out Libbey Lazarus’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Libbey Lazarus.

Hi Libbey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a licensed esthetician and wax educator with over 25 years in the industry. I got tired of the wax corporate runaround. I used to be a Spa Director and top esthetician at a fancy spa, doing up to 20 Brazilian waxes a day—and still wasn’t making good money. I was burned out.

So, I left the spa and the clients. I started from scratch with zero clients, a ton of worry, and one big dream: freedom. I went solo in a small, rundown room—no sink, no frills, just grit.

Now, I’m known for my 10-minute Brazilians using both hard and soft wax. When I’m not waxing, I’m teaching classes, podcasting, and supporting estheticians inside my Facebook group, Secrets of Estheticians. My sister Lisa Lazarus produces our podcast.

I have a Bachelor’s in Drama from SDSU, and I’ve been named Esthetician of the Year multiple times. I’ve trained in Australia and Spain with Dermalogica and completed leadership programs in NYC with Bumble & Bumble and in Minnesota with Aveda.

I’m not just working in this industry—I’m helping shape the future of the next generation of waxers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. I’ve failed multiple times—walked away from a full clientele, started over from scratch (twice), dealt with shady salon owners, flaky clients, and burnout. I’ve been broke, exhausted, and doubted everything. But each time I got back up, I learned, adjusted, and kept going. That’s why I teach—so other estheticians don’t have to learn everything the hard way. Hiring my sister Lisa to run the back end of my business has helped tremendously.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Brazilian Wax and Brow Specialist with 25 years in the industry. I teach online and in-person classes—showing estheticians how to wax faster, safer, and smarter using hard, soft, and sugar strip wax. I’m known for my 10-minute Brazilian, client retention strategies, and being real about what it takes to succeed.

I’m most proud of training thousands of estheticians and building a loyal community that supports one another. What sets me apart? I’m still behind the table, still waxing, still learning—and I share everything. No gatekeeping, no fluff. Just real education from a working esthetician.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Resilience. I’ve been knocked down, burned out, and had to start over—but I never quit. I adapt, I pivot, and I keep showing up. That grit has been the backbone of my success in this industry.
