Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiffon Lark.
Hi Chiffon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been practicing art my whole life. I believe that when we are born, we know who we are, and I have always identified as an Artist. I am very blessed in that I have had a clear vision of how I wanted to use my abilities since I was a young child.
As a child, my artwork was a direct reflection of how I perceived the world, allowing me to express what words could not capture. As I grew older, I understood that my art was a powerful tool not only for connecting with others but also for self-exploration and reflection. Every piece I create serves as a bridge between my inner experiences and the outside world.
My purpose lies in creating art that invites viewers to connect with the beauty and complexity of the natural world, while maintaining a narrative that feels both fresh and authentic.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been full of highs and lows. I would say that the fear of leaving what is familiar – a corporate career, a city, or even an identity is absolutely necessary when you embark on the journey of walking in your purpose. One of the biggest lessons I have had to learn is this doesn’t just happen once either. You will have to be ready to surrender anything attached to an identity that you may have of yourself at anytime.
I’ve discovered that stepping away from the safety of a conventional normalcy is essential to embrace my true purpose. Each time I make a significant change—be it moving to a new city or redefining my resilience—I find myself growing in ways I never anticipated. This journey of creation and self-discovery is ongoing and it demands a willingness to surrender to the process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work with a contemporary medium known as Alcohol Ink. This is a non-water solvable fluid medium that consists of highly concentrated pigments. I use ethanol based solution to dilute the ink (most commonly rubbing alcohol) and I specialize in abstract-realism with an emphasis on Wildlife Portraiture.
I use a self developed technique that involves my breath and small paintbrushes. The substrate I use is non-porous (Yupo) so being able to move the lightweight medium by using open air breath blowing creates the abstraction. Adding detail to the composition with paintbrushes came from the techniques I learned as an oil portrait artist, but has taken many years of refinement.
Something that is so important to me as a business owner, is to promote sustainability and biodegradability in my products and process of creating. Over the years, I have moved into the direction of sourcing framing, substrate, and delivery methods that are environmentally conscious and 100% biodegradable.
How do you define success?
I believe that true success is rooted in the journey of self-love and acceptance. I aspire to have my work reflect the notion of leaving behind a legacy filled with honesty and authenticity. I acknowledge that adversity is an unavoidable part of life, but I emphasize the importance of responding with grace, love, and compassion. Through my art I strive to encourage others to embrace their own true stories, fostering a sense of resilience and connection to their own truths. I believe that when you are able to lead a life in this way, peacefully, you are successful.
