Life & Work with Lisa LaPage of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa LaPage.

Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my journey in Little League baseball at the age of 15, volunteering for my dad and brother’s team at Balboa Little League. When my two sons were old enough to play baseball, I continued my involvement by volunteering for their teams. In 1995, I started as a team mom for my son’s team, and within five years, I joined the board of Mira Mesa Little League. My roles included Head Scorekeeper, Player Agent, and Vice President, serving on the board from 1997 to 2005.

In 2005, I took on the role of District Administrator for our Little League District, acting as a liaison between Little League International and the local leagues. Initially, I managed 15 leagues, but as some closed over the years, I now oversee 9 local Little Leagues, ranging from Scripps Ranch to Coronado and everything in between west of the 163 and north of the 8.

I have proudly served as District Administrator for 20 seasons, and I still love watching the children play ball and learn valuable life lessons. The District Administrator role is entirely voluntary and involves ensuring the smooth operation of the leagues, providing guidance on rules, addressing issues, and sharing knowledge for success. I am supported by a dedicated district staff of nine members, without whom I couldn’t manage this significant role.

Part of my responsibilities include organizing all-star tournaments, which require a collective effort to ensure everything runs according to Little League Baseball standards. Our district has hosted the Southern California State tournaments for the Intermediate Division (ages 11-13) twice, and we are preparing to do so again this year.
Outside of Little League,

I am a proud grandmother to six grandchildren (three girls and three boys), all of whom live locally. Two of them are currently enrolled in and play Little League, which occupies much of my spare time. Volunteering runs in our family; my dad was President of Balboa Little League, and now my son serves as the Vice President for his local league.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating the complexities of managing Little League Baseball has been far from smooth. Mediating conflicts and addressing issues among parents, coaches, and league officials presents significant challenges.

Additionally, keeping up with the constantly evolving rules and regulations to ensure compliance across all leagues is a daunting task. Organizing tournaments, drafting schedules, recruiting volunteers, and ensuring everything runs seamlessly requires countless personal hours and dedication.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My professional role is centered in project management finance, where I excel at maintaining schedules and effectively managing interpersonal dynamics. My expertise lies in ensuring that projects stay on track, coordinating with various stakeholders, and navigating complex financial landscapes. This involves meticulous planning, strategic problem-solving, and adept communication skills to address challenges and foster collaboration.

My ability to balance multiple priorities and drive successful outcomes is a testament to my dedication and proficiency in my volunteer job with Little League Baseball.

I am widely recognized for my exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

How do you think about happiness?
Spending time with family is truly one of life’s greatest joys. My grandbabies, aged 13 to 1, bring immense happiness and fun into my life. The sleepovers, family vacations, and MLB games we share create lasting memories that I cherish. Not to mention all the Little League games we watch together, including going to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

In addition to the joy my family brings, volunteering for Little League baseball has been a source of fulfillment and happiness for me. Watching the children play ball, learn valuable life lessons, and grow as individuals is incredibly rewarding. The sense of community and the positive impact we have on the lives of young players and their families makes volunteer work truly special.
