Meet Callie Castillo of Las Vegas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Castillo.

Hi Callie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in 2020 I was craving a new creative hobby. I was debating between photography & dance class. I ended up answering an OfferUp ad & buying a starter camera for about $400. Slowly I began to take photos of my friends & simply posting them on my Instagram story. The inquiries kept coming and I finally decided to turn it into my hobby, then a side hustle, and now my full time job. I just kept shooting and sharing consistently. Word of mouth and social media has truly been what’s kept my clients rolling in. Consistency, finding what truly sets my soul on fire, serving others and remaining teachable is what keeps me going.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle I’ve dealt with is imposter syndrome. I’ve felt unqualified at times, being a self-taught photographer. It’s hard to not compare yourself to other local artists – but remembering the right people will always find me is something I find peace in. There truly is enough to go around and I am grateful for my clients that have found their way to me. Burn out is real too. Learning to say “no” to shoots I no longer want to partake in has been a challenge, but it’s better for me as an artist in the long run.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer, I specialize in encouraging and empowering women. I really feel that is what I am known for. When my clients text me after a session a lot of them say similar things. That they felt comfortable, confident, and empowered. I’m proud anytime a woman can see their beauty from a fresh perspective. I believe my energy of being able to make people feel comfortable is one of my super powers and what sets me apart.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is remain teachable. Always be open to learning, growing – and finding a mentor that is doing what you want to do. Learn from their wisdom, soak up every ounce of advice, but also know you’ll learn in your own time, in your own way. The only thing I wish I knew was to put myself in the right rooms sooner – and believe you’re worthy of being there.
