Today we’d like to introduce you to Graziela Nessel.
Hi Graziela , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“Well, I started three years ago. I came from a tropical country, (Brazil) where the most anticipated season is summer, with lots of vibrant colors.” An energy that’s contagious — that’s when I created Caligirl, with a Brazilian touch but also that California vibe, which also has lots of colors and unforgettable, amazing sunsets. “So in this fusion of two countries that enjoy beautiful summers, I brought a bit of what Brazil has to offer to California.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“In our minds, everything moves very fast, but in practice, it was quite different. I had a dream and a lot of drive, but zero knowledge. One of the biggest tools that helped me get started was the internet — it’s where I found professionals who now work for me. In Brazil, everything is made there… fabric, labels, everything that makes up the brand is produced in Brazil and sent to me. And each year, we keep growing. Our prints are exclusive because I design them myself, send them to a textile company that develops them on polyamide, and then ships them to Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, where my store is located.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
“Well, our Brazilian bikinis are known worldwide for their designs, creativity, and fabric quality. I built a great team where I was able to show them that we weren’t just making two pieces of fabric — we were creating an identity. I also managed to bring in a balance of what American women would like to wear, blending Brazilian style with elements that fit their cultural standards. It took sensitivity and vision during the design and development of the final piece.”
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Persistence, constancy, learning to listen have the humility to understand that knowledge comes with challenges with mistakes, that you deal with human beings not only with machines, that not only about two small pieces, but incredible people who will be putting their trust, and believing that that is the best bikini option that will be part of her summer story,
