Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Welland.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
20 years ago I was working in the interior design industry and not loving it… I knew I needed a change and my gut told me that event planning would be best for me! I got a job at L’Auberge Del Mar resort and learned so much about how wedding venues and hotels operate – plus I was also assisting a Wedding Planner on the weekends, working at her clients’ weddings. I started taking classes about “starting a small business” and creating a business plan for a Wedding Planning Business, and in the meantime the Wedding Planner I was assisting told me that she was moving away from San Diego and selling her business Bliss Events. Perfect!!! It was the exact business I was planning on starting! So I bought the business from her and hit the ground running. That was 18 years ago and I am proud to have grown the Bliss Events Team to be 4 Planners (including me). We plan around 75 weddings/events per year and are on many Preferred Vendor Lists for venues and vendors all over San Diego County.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am proud to have 18 years of experience owning Bliss Events and helping our clients! Honestly it’s been smooth most of the time, with the exception of the start of the COVID pandemic in 2020, when many of our weddings were postponed or canceled. Business got very quiet in 2020 and also 2021…. then it came back big in 2022 and 2023!
