Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Thi.
Hi Tia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tia, and I’m a proud San Diego native and mom of three. My journey in the coffee industry began 11 years ago when I was looking for a part-time job after high school. What started as a simple way to earn extra income quickly turned into a passion. I began working in a second-wave coffee shop, where I learned the fundamentals of crafting quality coffee and delivering great customer service.
As my interest in the industry grew, I transitioned into the world of third-wave coffee, where I gained a deeper appreciation for the art of specialty coffee. I worked my way up from barista to management, gaining valuable experience in operations, leadership, and maintaining high standards of quality.
In 2016, I moved to Las Vegas, where I started a mom group called Las Vegas Super Moms. Our group met regularly at different coffee shops, creating a strong bond over our shared love for coffee and community. Those meetups reinforced my belief that coffee has a unique way of bringing people together, and it deepened my desire to one day create a space where that kind of connection could flourish.
In 2024, I finally moved back home to San Diego and decided it was time to turn that dream into reality. Later that fall, I launched Chrome Coffee in the heart of North Park. Chrome Coffee blends traditional coffee culture with creative, fun lattes and a bold, edgy vibe. I wanted to create a space that reflects my personality and perspective—one that’s welcoming, a little irreverent, and always serving up something memorable.
My goal with Chrome Coffee is to offer more than just great drinks. I want to build a community where everyone feels at home, whether they’re stopping by for their morning pick-me-up or trying something new and adventurous. Every cup I serve is a reflection of my journey, and I’m excited to continue sharing that passion with my community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was figuring out how to promote my business and build a customer base, especially since I didn’t have a large network. With limited connections, I turned to social media as my primary tool for marketing. I consistently promoted my brand every day, sharing my passion for coffee, showcasing my drinks, and engaging with potential customers. Over time, my persistence paid off, I started gaining recognition, and soon, people began placing orders. This experience taught me the power of consistency and the importance of putting myself out there, even when starting from scratch.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m extremely proud of myself for just putting myself out there and, sharing what I love with others. What sets me apart from others is my creativity, Chrome Coffee has personality and I create experience with every drink and interaction with customers. I would say I’m known for the cute drink holders that include flowers with a drink.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
