Meet Heidi Sims of Bankers Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Sims.

Hi Heidi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love and passion for skincare started very young. My grandmother Dorothy would always make me wash my face at night and I never understood why. She would use Borgasea products and get all fdolled up before going out or going to church. Learning about skincare and makeup became a creative outlet for me. In highschool I started working for beauty counters doing makeup and I understood how important having a clean pallet for makeup really was. It starts with the outside first. This lead me to going to Aesthetician school after I graduated highschool in 2002. The rest is history!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges and struggles I have gone through was starting my business in 2011 after the 2008 market crash. Then in 2020 being hit by COVID and forced to shut down for 6 months was devastating and scary. But I kept pushing through and held strong in my faith. I knew that I wasn’t brought this far to fail. I am a hard worker and very determined so I kept putting one foot in front of the other. Now business is great and I am blessed to have new equipment and services to offer my clients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed Aesthetician. That means I am a skincare healer. First and foremost the skin is my passion. Learning about what happens internally effects the skin extrinsically (on the outside) is very important to my belief as an aesthetician as well as how I practice skincare. I specialize in DMK skin revision. I carry the whole line (DMK) and perform custom facials and enzyme therapy treatments. I help clients suffering from skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, eczema, and overall ageing. I also do a wet form of microdermabrasion which is very innovative and cutting edge. I also do chemical peels, waxing, and eyebrow and eyelash tinting. I just launched some body services for helping the body with inflammation, acne, and body contouring with my new LED light by Celluma.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
It is always a good idea to work for someone else in the beginning to get your feet wet and get all the experience that you can get. Maybe 1-2 years. This industry can be competitive and challenging as far as making yourself marketable. I worked for somebody for a few years and saw how they ran their business and decided I didn’t like their business practices so I decided to start my own. It’s very daring to take the leap of faith to start your own business, but there are a lot of resources that one can utilize. Always keep a pulse on classes and information for small businesses as well as joining networking groups. There’s nothing more marketable than showing your face at a networking group. There is also nobody else who will better describe what kind of services your business offers than you!
