Today we’d like to introduce you to Brody McCorkle.
Hi Brody, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was young, music was always my passion. When I was born my mother almost died birthing me, thank the lord she didnt die and I didnt die either because that was a big possibility. As I grew up I finally got my first phone, that’s how I recorded my earliest work. My first ever songs were only jokes and for the memes, but after that got some local traction I realized I never wanted to be known for only that. So I started making music that I wanted to be actually good and tried my best on. As I made music all day everyday for months on end, using everyones feedback I slowly gotten better everyday. Then I figured I should make my first mixtape “Orion Radio” and made Mario Kart which was just a freestyle that was made in 15 minutes. Everyone liked the song so I made my first ever music video to it. I had the idea to send the video to Anthony Fantano which is a huge name in the music scene as a huge critic so I thought it was funny to send a light hearted song about playing Mario Kart to him. Little did I know a few weeks went by, he actually tweeted my song and it got like 50 thousand views on the actual tweet and my video got 900 views. That was really cool so I kept making music, I made ijuswannaknow which was a fan favorite at the time and so was Shades but then I started working on my next Mixtape “Vista” and my vision for it was to make my own sound in the underground. By using Jerk/Hoodtrap and pop punk guitars I made Vista. It still has my biggest song yet ever “Im Gone” which recently hit 10k streams. Other favorites on Vista was Moved On, Passionate Again, and What Im Abt. At the time of the release it wasnt crazy like when I released Orion Radio but i didn’t let that stop me by any means. But it slowly started to take off. I then made some more bangers like Flawless Lasting and Can’t Find No H*es. By still using the Jerk/Hoodtrap sound. Also when I dropped Orion Radio I was in school and I made like 20 CDs and passed them out so if they still have one thats pretty cool. After I dropped Flawless Lasting, I got hit up by VeryRareCimena, which has a big name in the Underground. They work with a lot of big names like Dave Blunts and Lazerdim 700. And I got a manager now that’s with VeryRareCimena, but Im actually going to the Army In August so me and my manager has decided to wait till im out of bootcamp to really push more new music, which im stacked up with new music to the brim. Recently I dropped an EP called “Gone Brazy.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For sure hasn’t been smooth at all. Ive been hated on so many times and have had so many doubts in my craft. But you can’t let haters get to you because even the greats has haters. I remember when I dropped Orion Radio and I was being harrassed by these trolls who were just saying awful nasty stuff. When I promote my music, so many people comment and hate. I love the hate though dont get me wrong, it motivates me. Another area where its not smooth is having doubts in my own work and overthink on projects and all that stuff. But I been making music just for me and not anyone else, its been like that since day 1. Other than that it has been kinda smooth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make underground music, like Jerk/Hoodtrap. Im pretty known for locally my song Mario Kart or my song Im Gone. Im most proud of my song Flawless Lasting though because I really was expiermenting different sounds. What sets me apart from other people ill say is my quality.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Never doubt yourself.
