Ruwan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The most meaningful moments in life deserve more than a scroll, they deserve to be held, seen, and remembered. I discovered photography during my second year of college, learning the art of exposure through slide film after picking up a used camera from a pawn shop. Diana, with her incredible eye for detail and deep creative instincts, saw the spark of something bigger. While I transitioned from a 15-year career as a science teacher to build the studio full time, Diana continues to balance her role as a head pharmacy technician with her work alongside me. Together, we created Ruwan and Diana Photography to offer more than portraits, we offer guided, emotionally rich experiences that culminate in heirloom artwork. Every session is a reflection of our shared vision: to help people see the beauty in their own stories and preserve it for generations to come.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Launching a studio has been a brand-new adventure for both of us, equal parts exhilarating and daunting. The learning curve is steep, but that’s what I love most: there’s always something new to discover, improve, or refine. We have a clear vision for how we want to serve our clients and our community, and while that vision can sometimes feel far off, each day brings us one step closer. Every challenge we face stretches our creativity and strengthens our resolve. The struggles aren’t what define our journey, it’s how we rise to meet them. And with every obstacle we overcome, we grow into better entrepreneurs, better storytellers, and better partners for the people who trust us to capture their most meaningful moments.
