Conversations with Delaney Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Green.

Hi Delaney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been drawn to content creation and social media ever since I first laid eyes on a camera. Maybe it was my iCarly obsession, but from a young age, I was always the little girl who wanted to be on camera. When I had just turned 9, my dad gifted me my very own vlogging camera, and since then, I haven’t looked back!

Throughout high school, I had a YouTube channel that allowed me to not only further build my confidence on camera, but also develop skills in filming, editing, and digital marketing. That passion led me to pursue a Marketing degree at San Diego State University. While there, I interned at AFMKTG (a luxury creative agency in Downtown San Diego) and Power Digital Marketing, and I served as the Marketing Director for Girl Gains SDSU for 2 years.

I posted on social media here and there during college, but it wasn’t until my final semester that I realized if I took content creation seriously, I could actually turn it into my full-time job.

Fast forward two years- after a lot of hard work and many sacrifices, I’m now living a life I used to only dream about, with content creation as my full-time job!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Getting to where I am today definitely wasn’t easy or quick. But honestly, I’m grateful for the ups and downs, because that’s where I learned and grew the most.

As a type-A person, you’d think I’d love being my own boss… but at first, it was rough. Being a student and an athlete my whole life, all I’ve ever known were rigid schedules and tight deadlines. So when I suddenly had full control of my schedule, I did feel a bit overwhelmed. I would work all day, every day, just to feel like I was doing enough, and that obviously led to burnout. It took a few rounds of burning out to finally realize that 1) I am allowed to take breaks, and 2) time-blocking is key when you’re your own boss.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create foodie content on Instagram and TikTok, and right now I’m focused on two series: one where I try different San Diego food spots, and another where I try fast-food menu items I’ve never had before. My audience seems to love it, and it helps keeps things exciting!

I love how every content creator has their own unique style but what I love most about my content is the energy I bring on camera. Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve always felt super confident talking to the camera—it feels natural to me. I’m real, I’m honest, and I love making people feel like they’re just hanging out with a friend. If I love something, you’ll know. If I don’t… you’ll definitely know (though I’m a pretty easy grader, so it takes a lot for me to truly dislike something haha).

One of the things I’m most proud of recently is how much I’ve pushed myself to make new connections with others in the San Diego foodie space. When I was a freshman in college, I made it a goal to try as many local spots as I could, and now I’m finally getting to live that out while sharing it with thousands of people online. It’s definitely a full-circle moment for me!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I can’t pinpoint exactly what has been good or bad luck, but what I do believe in is manifestation and divine timing.

Like stated previously, the life I’m living right now is one I could only ever dream of. One that could only ever live on a Pinterest board. But 2 1/2 years ago, I made up my mind that my dreams would no longer be dreams, and they would be my reality. Now looking back, everything that has happened since then, whether good or bad, was meant to happen.

Your reality boils down to your mindset and if I were to look at every bad event in a negative light, I wouldn’t be standing as strong as I am today.
