Reena Vokoun of Carmel Valley/Del Mar on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Reena Vokoun and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Reena, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
For many years, I’ve had friends, family, clients, industry peers and business partners encouraging me to start a podcast. Over the last decade, I’ve been a frequent guest on other podcasts, but I had always been hesitant to create my own. I was intimidated by the learning curve, workload and time commitment, given my other responsibilities with running my company, Passion Fit, being a wife and mom and pursuing other personal and professional endeavors and projects.

However, my hestitation and fear started to subside at the beginning of this year. After recording audiobooks for my two previously published paperback books and ebooks, I started to more seriously consider launching a podcast and felt it would be another channel in which I could educate and motivate others in the areas of health and wellness. Between working with my audio production and marketing teams and discussing the possibility with them, I felt compelled to finally do it and put one foot in front of the other to take a risk, learn new skills and execute.

And now, I’m happy to say I’ve finally launched my new podcast, Your Power Move™ by Passion Fit, which is available in video and audio formats on Apple Podcasts, YouTube and Spotify!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Reena Vokoun, and I’m the Founder and CEO of Passion Fit. As a TEDx speaker, author, certified wellness expert, and media personality, I’m on a mission to help high-achieving women and organizations unlock peak performance through holistic well being. With certifications in health coaching, fitness, yoga, nutrition, behavior change and strengths-based coaching from ACE, AFAA and Gallup, I blend science-backed strategies with real-life practicality.

My professional roots include over two decades of experience leading digital marketing and business development teams at companies like Google, Yahoo, Reebok, CNET, GE and Grokker. But it was my passion for empowering women—especially working moms—that led me to launch Passion Fit, a wellness platform dedicated to transforming burnout into balance.

Through corporate wellness programs, coaching, classes, events, products, content and speaking, Passion Fit provides holistic tools for fitness, mindfulness, productivity, nutrition and work-life harmony. I’ve spoken for global companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Google, appeared as a TV health contributor on FOX, NBC, ABC, and CBS, and now I’m the host of my own podcast, Your Power Move™ by Passion FIt.

I was named one of LA Weekly’s Top 10 Health and Fitness Leaders of 2023, was a Top 10 finalist in the Ms. Health and Fitness 2024 competition, and I’m a former ESPN National Fitness Championships award winner. I serve on the Entrepreneurship Advisory Alumni Board for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Women’s Leadership Alumni Council at Boston University, and the Health and Wellness Advisory Board for TOKK™ by Pred Technologies. I was also a Women in Management Facilitator for Stanford University.

Finally, I’m a wife and mom and live in San Diego, CA with my family.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I think my late maternal grandfather saw me clearly before I could even see myself! He always paid attention to my passions and pursuits in health, wellness and fitness throughout my childhood, teenage and young adult life. And when I was 23 years old, he told me that he could see me having a second career in health and wellness after working in corporate America for many years. I always highly valued and respected his opinions, so I took his advice to heart, and that’s exactly what happened. I hope he’s watching down over my family and me and I’m making him proud!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, I would say to trust the process and journey of your life and know in your heart that everything will work out the way it’s meant to. When I was younger, I often worrried about what the future would hold, and I placed a lot of pressure on myself to be successful. However, I’ve learned over the years to have faith and that success isn’t defined by external achievements and forms of validation, but rather from listening to my own internal instincts, leading with love, living according to my values, helping others and making a positive impact in the world.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that my relationships with my family, friends, community, clients and colleagues matter most to me. It’s the people in my life that have the greatest impact on me, and my top priority is to love, cherish, connect and help others to the best of my ability.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m outside in nature with my family. There’s something about being in beautiful and natural surroundings with your loved ones that makes you feel whole and gives you perspective. I also feel a sense of gratitude, and I’m able to fully focus on those precious present moments when all feels right in the world.
