Sativa Brown of Alpine on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sativa Brown. Check out our conversation below.

Sativa, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are dedicated to a slow start. I wake up and do a brief workout followed by a quick shower. After getting ready for the day, I let out the animals and water my garden. By the time I finish these tasks, the baby is usually waking up, and we begin our breakfast.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sativa Brown, and I am the owner of Baron Long Party Rentals. We specialize in bounce houses and also offer various party items. We have been in busienss for 5 years now. Before starting this venture, I attended CSUSM and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Finance. Fast forward to now, we are balancing a growing business and an expanding family.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think the number one thing that breaks the bonds between people is trust. Once the trust is shaken it’s hard to believe a person won’t let you down again. To restore this we would need compassion and accountability. As a business owner it’s important to instill trust in your employees so they can achieve the success we both desire. When the trust is broken it is important to lead with compassion and remember everyone is human and makes mistakes.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Something suffering taught me that success never could is the value of empathy and compassion. In my hardest struggles in life I remember most the people who showed me compassion and empathy, boosting my moral instead of watching me suffer. It’s the people who want to see others succeed that succeed themselves.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I would hope my closest friends would say that being a good friend and person is what matters most to me. I truly value my friendships and want to be one of those people that are there for others. I feel lucky to be blesses with friends who have stuck by me in life.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left to live, I wouldn’t waste a single day on trivial worries. I’d live authentically, unapologetically, and follow through on my impulses instead of talking myself out of them. If I wanted to go to the beach, I’d go—without letting something as small as traffic or parking hold me back. With only 10 years left, I’d give myself full permission to live exactly how I wanted, whenever I wanted.
