Today we’d like to introduce you to Reegan Lessie.
Hi Reegan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Baba opened in 2016 and we expanded the business earlier this year to include the upstairs lounge. Our mission is to create community and a welcoming space for people to connect. As a lifelong member of north county it is heartwarming to see and connect with so many people. Some of our customers are like family as I have known many of them for decades. Growing up in north county, working for other local business and now being a business owner myself it is incredibly to witness how so many people have supported and followed me as I have waited tables, taught yoga, and now own my own business. Rob and I are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share our love for healthy food, coffee, tea, beer and wine. At Baba we weekly roast our coffee beans locally and serve them fresh. We have always set out to source the highest quality ingredients. In the last five years we have embraced natural wines and have worked hard to curate one of the best selections of natural wines in San Diego.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a business has its struggles but as a business owner it is important to be flexible and try different approaches. We are always looking to improve and grow. We welcome feedback and do our best to make the experience at Baba feel welcoming. Because our ingredients are fresh and local we do run into difficulties with sourcing at times. Luckily we have forged amazing relationships with suppliers over the years and have been able to find ways to work around those difficulties.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Baba Coffeehouse is unique because we offer a cozy environment with amazing coffee, beautiful loose leaf tea, local and international beer and wine along with healthy clean food. Weekly we have live music and fun pop-up food vendors and now with the expansion you can rent the space to host your next event. Many of our customers tell us that Baba is their home away from home.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To be present. To be willing to try something different and to be open to change.
