Check Out Carlos Borruel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Borruel.

Hi Carlos, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I come from a humble family who has always worked hard to make a living. I have always been very ambitious and passionate about the food industry. I have always seen myself as an entrepreneur but had no idea where to start. Then I realized I should start with something I have always been passionate about and truly love. Tacos!

I literally started with NOTHING but a dream! I started my catering business by borrowing my in-laws tables, canopy, and food warmers! The only investment I made was a 22″ blackstone grill which is still used to this day and has fed thousands and thousands of people up to date! I slowly started buying my own tables, canopies and equipment to grow my business. Not to mentioned I knew NOTHING about business but was always willing to learn day by day and fight the battles.

We are still growing but have learned so much and now I am confident to say we are a professional catering company with every type of event under our belt. I have grown our business by simply wanting to provide an experience to every single customer and never taking shortcuts.

I am proud of the business we have and have gone through so much to get to where we are know. But the dream is still BIG and have so much to accomplish! We really look forward to the future of Carlitos Tacos Catering and to be a staple in the catering industry for years to come!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road! Like many businesses, ours was built with a lot of sweat, blood and tears! A huge struggle for me has been my lack of business knowledge. Growing up in a rough neighborhood and not being the best student caused me to grow up lacking confidence in myself but yet deep inside knowing I could be someone and make a difference. I did not attend business school nor come from a business family so everything I have learned is from making mistakes and listening to audiobooks and business podcasts while working construction. I have an amazing wife and 3 beautiful little girls who are my motivation who have sacrificed so much for this small business. Balancing a full time job where I work 50-60+ hours a week, a family and small business has been tough but also very grateful for.

I have felt burned out so many times with counted days off in the last few years.

Made so many mistakes but learn from every single one!

So many struggles it is hard to name them all.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Working construction since 2013.

Started my business in 2019 while still working construction till this day.

Have used the majority of my sick days and vacation days to grow my business.

I am most proud of how much I have grown in my job and business while trying to be the best father and husband! I am also proud to say I am able to spend a lot of time with my wife and kids although many sacrifices have always been made by all of us.

I truly believe that my thick skin sets me apart from many people. What I have gone through many people are not willing to do and I do not blame them! Being able to put up with so many sleepless nights and struggles have made me who I am. But what makes me different is that I love it! I love the challenge and the feeling that I was able to do it!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Never give up and believe in yourself! When I fist started I did not think I could do it but yet I kept going. Very few people believed in me and even laughed at me when I shared all my ideas.

I have learned that it will not be easy to get to where I want to get. Every rough path I run into I tell myself that life is testing me and I need to get through it. I tell myself many will not be willing to go through what I am going through and that is what makes me different.

Ive learned to visualize and have confidence that i will get there. Especially since I am living proof of that. I might not be where i want to be but I have accomplished so much I saw myself doing many years ago.
