Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosangela Castillo.
Hi Rosangela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In late 2023, I had a health wake-up call. After visiting a liver specialist and going through a FibroScan, I was diagnosed with a fatty liver. At the time, I was already seeing a nutritionist and a dietitian, trying to take better care of my health, but this diagnosis pushed things to a new level. I was advised to follow a Mediterranean diet, avoid fast food, avoid red meat, and work out consistently.
Instead of just following instructions, I decided to really dive into the why behind them. I started researching fatty liver disease, looking into ways to reverse it naturally. Juicing became one of my biggest experiments not just for myself, but for my household too. I spent time tweaking recipes so they were not only healthy, but enjoyable. Between that, a clean diet, and daily exercise, I managed to reverse my fatty liver.
When my doctor looked at my results and said, “Hmm… what did you do? Your liver got better,” I felt incredibly proud. That moment sparked something in me. I knew I wanted to share what I’d learned not just the recipes, but the journey with my community. That’s how Rose and Route was born: from a personal path to healing, to helping others find theirs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
From a business perspective, turning my personal health journey into something I could share with others also came with its own set of challenges. Learning how to run a business, balancing time between creating juice recipes, sourcing ingredients, educating myself, and marketing — it’s a lot. There were moments of doubt, and times I wondered if anyone would care about my story or products. But every small win, every message from someone saying they feel better, makes it worth it.
Struggle is part of the process it teaches you patience, resilience, and creativity. And I’ve learned to embrace it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Rose and Roots, I specialize in small-batch, cold-pressed juices that stay fresh for up to three days. Each recipe is created with intention, balancing taste and health benefits and tested by me first. What sets me apart is that I bring my juices directly into the community. I pop up at run clubs, mom groups, healing circles, and even junk journaling meetups.
It’s not just about selling juice, it’s about connecting, sharing my story, and helping others feel supported in their wellness journey. I’m most proud that this business started from my own healing, and now it’s helping others take small but meaningful steps toward theirs.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is being in the kitchen with my family especially during holidays or big gatherings. I remember the smells, the laughter, the way everyone had a role. I didn’t realize it then, but those moments really shaped my love for food, flavors, and creating something that brings people together. It’s probably a big reason why I love making juice now it’s another way I get to create and connect with others through something nourishing.
