I went to cosmetology school straight out of high school. I graduated from the doll soon academy in Santa Monica in 1996 and then immediately started assisting under an amazing celebrity stylist Arthur Virgo at Umberto Beverly Hills. I was there for four years. That’s where I got my foundation and work ethic And then I worked in Los Angeles at some extremely prestigious salons for the next 10 years until I moved to Austin, I lived there for three years and started a family they moved to San Diego in 2011. I worked at paper Doll in PB for about five years until I decided to open my own space in 2016 and I’ve been there ever since

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So many obstacles trying to juggle being a business owner and a single mom. Things started out pretty smooth initially and then I quickly realized that running a business is very hard work. We weathered Stylist changes Covid maintaining clientele staying current with styles all the regular responsibilities of being a business owner. Weathering fluctuations in the economy…maintaining clientele and balancing personal and professional life. It’s never a dull moment.

I love what I do. I’m so fortunate. I love my clientelel. I get to go to work and just visit with great people every day and be creative. I specialize in color and extensions and I’m constantly trying to broaden my knowledge and learn new methods I’m so fortunate to have cultivated such an amazing clients and relationships with some truly inspiring women.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is maintaining my my relationship with my clients and staying motivated and focused. A lot of my clients have become dear friends and they’re so important to me. I’ve watched them go from college students to get married and become wives, mothers, business owners. I had older clients pass away. They become special to me.
