Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Warshaw.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a tattoo artist of almost 30 years, I am an illustrator who has designed for lots of companies in San Diego, and abroad, including Bali Hai. Tom, Hams, Cutwater Spirits, Trader Vics, Mothership,to name a couple. I’ve also designed artwork for several books and I’ve been published in tons of magazines, I play in a band called the creepy creeps and we have been a band in San Diego for 25 years, I’m a tiki artist and local entrepreneur. I am also the curator of Bali Hito, the worlds tiniest tiki room as seen on Atlas Obscura.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with anything when it comes to art and creativity it’s been a very fun travel, but of course it has its ups and downs as there is no consistency to this lifestyle. San Diego has been a very, very great city and community for me and my family to make a way and have a business.

What sets me apart is that I draw everything with pencil and pen? I do not use a computer for my illustrations. Not because I don’t want to, but because I feel like my illustrations look a certain way using the tools that I use.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is being able to do what I love doing and making a living doing so. I love watching my family.growing Exponentially into this Community. I am happy to say I feel like I found a home when moving to San Diego in the early 90’s! My son is a thriving musician and my wife an amazing nurse who does Tattoo Removal!!! We live a blessed , creative, fun life!!!
