Today we’d like to introduce you to Madri Koppe.
Hi Madri, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve had a love for real estate and design since childhood. My dad worked as a residential painter, and I still remember tagging along to his projects and being captivated by the beautiful historic homes around Phoenix. That early exposure really shaped my appreciation for the spaces we live in and how thoughtful design can influence how we feel.
After getting married, my husband and I discovered a shared passion for modern architecture and quality design. Like many San Diegans, we knew entering the housing market would take creativity, so we started by investing. In 2019, we purchased a duplex, lived in one unit, and rented out the other. We ultimately embarked on designing and building two new accessory dwelling units on the property which reinforced my passion for design and development.
That’s what led me to launch Augment Interiors, an interior design studio specializing in Airbnb and multifamily design. My approach merges real estate insight with design strategy to help property owners elevate their investments and create spaces people genuinely love to experience.
Beyond aesthetics, my goal is to contribute to the fabric of our communities by transforming properties into well-designed, functional, and inspiring spaces—places that not only perform as investments but also enrich the lives of those who call them home, even if it’s just for a night.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Finding the courage to start my own business, and the grit to keep going, has been both humbling and rewarding. There’s no clear blueprint for entrepreneurship, and when you’re building something from the ground up, everything rests on your shoulders. I’ve had to dig deep to overcome rejection, self-doubt, and the steep learning curve that comes with running a business.
Designing is the fun part, but I quickly realized that success also depends on mastering marketing and relationship building. You can have incredible ideas, but if no one knows about you, you can’t make an impact. As an introvert, learning to put myself out there and build connections has been one of my biggest personal challenges—but also one of the most transformative.
What’s kept me going is my faith, persistence, and the belief that hard work always produces results. At the end of the day, my focus is on adding real value and being of service—helping clients reach their goals through impactful design and meaningful interior storytelling.
As you know, we’re big fans of Augment Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Augment Interiors, we help transform and elevate spaces so they stand out, perform well, and connect with their target audience. We specialize in ROI-driven design for a range of real estate assets, including short-term rentals, multifamily properties, and flips. As an investor myself, I understand the unique challenges that come with creating a profitable space—where every design decision has to balance aesthetics, function, and return.
That’s why our approach is rooted in research and strategy. We focus on creating spaces that deliver exceptional guest and resident experiences. Whether it’s a thoughtfully themed Airbnb, amenities that attract and retain tenants, or communal areas that build a sense of connection, our designs help properties stand out from the crowd. I also believe a property should feel inviting from the moment you arrive. We aim to design welcoming, visually interesting properties that consider the exterior curb appeal and interior holistically.
In addition, I also offer residential design services for homeowners who want to elevate their everyday spaces. Our goal is to help clients love the home they’re in now, while also building long-term value through intentional, enduring design choices. Through our on-demand design consults, we make professional design support more accessible, helping homeowners tackle any design challenge and achieve a cohesive designer look without overspending.
At the core, my goal is simple: to design with purpose, maximize value, and contribute to stronger, more beautiful communities through thoughtful, impact-driven interior design.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Definitely! The key is to get out there, meet people, and add genuine value wherever you can. In any service-based business, relationships are everything, so I’ve had to challenge myself to show up and engage even when it felt uncomfortable. The great thing is, the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. I’ve found that when you show up as your authentic self, you naturally attract the right people and meaningful relationships begin to form.
When it comes to mentorship, I’ve learned it doesn’t always have to be a formal relationship. Some of my biggest inspirations have come from people I’ve never met—through podcasts, interviews, or social media. If someone’s story or success resonates, I take that as motivation for my own journey. At the end of the day, we all have to forge our own path, but seeing those who have done it before can be a powerful reminder to keep going. And don’t be afraid to reach out—sometimes the best opportunities come from simply asking.
