We’re looking forward to introducing you to Butta BLueez . Check out our conversation below.
Butta , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
One thing I am being called to do right now that I have been afraid of for a while now is letting go. Letting go of my past life and things that no longer serve me. Such as my limiting beliefs that have been detrimental to my authentic self and my unhealthy habits that caused me to be in cycles that I asked God to take me out of. Sometimes we get so comfortable in turmoil or comfortability that it scares us to let go of the these familiar ways even when we outgrew them.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am JaNae Bell. My brand is called PGPTheMovement aka as PGP for short. PGP is an acronym that has a philosophical way of doing things to gain success out of any circumstance life has to offer. The acronym stands for Pray Grind Praise, The Keys To Success. And as long as you follow that recipe you are guaranteed Success. PGP turned into a clothing brand accidentally after I started rocking my own clothes to school. Next thing you know I had a friend who wanted clothes and then the movement caught on and I was making shirts for the whole city! Over the years I’ve sharpened my skills and became a self taught designer that specializes in apparel, home/office decor and accessories. I think my brand is unique because it’s more than a clothing brand , it’s a philosophy created to help anyone on their journey. It’s a story telling brand and I use life experiences to create my clothing. Also customers also have their own stories that they share with me that inspires me to continue to create apparel and accessories for them. So this brand is like a give and take we all feed off each other. And as one we are all apart of the movement.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that served its purpose is the survival side of me that got me here and she must now be released with love. This has been the hardest thing for me that you’d think would be easy. But again when you are too comfortable in your situation for so long sometime it’s hard to move and then you become stagnant. But confidence is born from movement. And that circles back into the meaning and name of my brand, PGP The Movement. So right now I am in the process of releasing my old survival tactics and moving into a state of safety security and stability. But all of these things that I’ve longed for is on the other side of the unknown. The unknown is scary but that is where faith plays a huge part. You can not get into the next chapter without it.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I recently stopped hiding my pain this year. I faced it head on and been through every emotions. I became very vulnerable with myself, my friends and family. Something I’ve never done before. And I noticed when I stopped acting like I was okay was when people started to show up for me . And that experience was new for me. It’s often vice versa where I am the one who shows up for people and leaves my own pain to be internalized later which becomes never. Every experience, decision and emotion I put on the back burner for years had rose to the surface and I had to acknowledge all of it and release it. Being vulnerable became my super power and crying became healing.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I use to believe that love equates pain or sacrifice . And if you love something you have to sacrifice something or yourself in order to love it or receive love back. I recently found out that you do not have to do any of those things to receive love. It’s probably been the biggest lesson of my adulthood and I am grateful for that.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What light inside you have you been dimming?
I believe I’ve been dimming a lot of who I am for the past couple of years. There was a time where I use to gate keep my true personality. I became anxious around people because I made it a habit to be around people I couldn’t trust or didn’t have my best interest at heart. And when that happens you start to live in anxiety and now you’re dimming your own light because you’re scared of breaking free from judgement or showing up as your authentic self. I am a deep thinker and very analytical and most people don’t know that about me. I often couldn’t express that level of depth within me to most so I would downplay my intellect to fit in. But as I became more vulnerable I realized I can have in depth conversations with people. That’s actually what most appreciate. Since l’ve found myself again recently I would love to continue to share my philosophies, my messages, my downloads, and my views on life with the world.
