Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Janine Lagrimas of Temecula/San Diego

We recently had the chance to connect with Janine Lagrimas and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Janine, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
I think I’ve felt most loved in the small, in-between moments throughout my business and being a mom. Like when a client sends me a message saying how much a photo means to them, or when my kids tell me that they love me and they’re proud of me. It’s this mix of being seen and appreciated both as a mom and as a creator/business owner. For a long time, I struggled to feel like I deserved that love because I was so focused on what I hadn’t done yet or how I can be better. But at the same time, feeling a sense of mom guilt that maybe I’m doing too much and trying to find that balance between mom life and work life. But I’m learning that I don’t have to earn love because it’s already there and it’s unconditional, especially in those everyday moments that what I do matters to the people around me. I want to be living proof that you can chase your dreams, grow a business you’re proud of, and still show up as a great mom.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Janine, a lifestyle and wedding photographer based in Southern California. I started photography simply wanting to capture everyday memories of my family and friends. As my passion grew, I began photographing weddings and instantly knew I had found something special.

What I love most about photography, whether it’s a family shoot, a maternity session, or branding portraits, is watching my clients light up when they see their photos. I love that moment when they realize just how beautiful they are and they finally see themselves the way I’ve seen them through my camera. My ultimate goal is to create timeless, heartfelt images that make people feel something every time they look back.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming a mom changed everything for me. It shifted the way I see and experience the world. It taught me to slow down and appreciate the little moments that often go unnoticed like the laughter, the chaos, the quiet in between. It was easy to lose myself in the midst of motherhood, but it also taught me independence and gave me a confidence, which I hope my kids carry themselves too.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there were times I almost gave up during moments where I felt overwhelmed, unseen, and unsure if I was capable of balancing everything. Especially times where my imposter syndrome was at its highest. But I’ve learned that every time I pushed through those moments, something beautiful came from it and I am so proud. Those struggles reminded me that I’m capable of so much more than I think.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
As a Filipino woman and first-generation daughter of immigrants, family and community, and gratitude, are values that are extremely important to me. I grew up watching my parents work tirelessly to build a better life for us, and that sense of sacrifice, love, and togetherness has shaped everything I do. No matter how busy life gets with business or motherhood, I always make time for my family.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me for my energy. That I hopefully brought laughs, light, and warmth wherever I went. More than anything, I want people to remember how I made them feel. Loved, seen, and a little lighter after spending time with me.
