Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with KAT PAPIKE of La Mesa

KAT PAPIKE shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

KAT, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I love this question!!
As life takes shape, I can say I am definitely wandering.

Looking back on life, there are things that I always thought I would/ should have already accomplished, achieved, or manifested. I can now say I know there was a reason those things didn’t always go as planned.

At my current age, I realize life can and will throw unexpected curve balls and detours.

I am at a place where I like having direction but, don’t allow txists, bumps to stress me out.
As Thich Nhat Han saud, no mud, no lotus!”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I am Kat Papike, owner of A Balanced Self. My motto it is okay to be “Self-Centered!” That ply on words is a reminder that is okay to take time for self-care. By doing so, you can reduce stress and improve your immune system.

My practice is based on Integrative Wellness which can compliment modern western medicine. I offer a variety of modalities such as Reiki, Biomagnet Energy Therapy, Sound Healing, Healing Touch, Yoga, Workshops, Corporate Wellness.

I am thankful I am able to use my energy work on patients at local hospitals. There, we qualify the techniques as “relaxation ” as it can greatly reduce stress and anxiety in a hospital setting.

My goal is to help clients find balance in their physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies.

I am a part time barista working for benefits. This has inspired a book I am writing called Not Just a Barista!- it will be a book about judging people and ourselves.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that everyone had to like me and/or be my or there was something wrong with me.

As an adult, I held onto that belief for years. Once I had an Aha moment, I realized it is okay that everyone doesn’t like me, believe what I believe, or share the same interests. These are things that make us unique.
As long as we are kind to each other, life is good!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Thank you for never giving up even when that could have been the “easy” way out. I know perseverance has been a big part of me getting to this special chapter in my life.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Kindness and compassion are 2 things I value and share with all of the people who cross my path.
We are all connected and we never know what someone else’s journey has been. I can start the domino effect and hope the next person v does the same with a simple act of kindness.

I believe as Ghandi said, ” Be the change you want to see in the world!”

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Professionally, I am most at peace when I am working with someone on their wellness journey and they start to see how they can live their best life!!

Personally, I am most at peace out in nature. I am thankful for living in San Diego because I can find that peace at the ocean, mountains, or the desert!
