Story & Lesson Highlights with Czarina Luna of Chula Vista

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Czarina Luna. Check out our conversation below.

Czarina, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’ve been avoiding is truly letting go of the past, but the emotional story I built around it. As a creative, that story became a kind of fuel, even a comfort zone. But the thought of moving forward and not looking back means I have to stop drawing from old pain and start creating from who I am now not who I was then. That shift is hard, but it’s also where my most honest work is starting to come from.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Czarina, a wedding and family photographer dedicated to capturing authentic, emotionally rich moments that tell meaningful stories. Based in San Diego, I specialize in documenting love in all its forms from the quiet glances between newlyweds to the everyday chaos and beauty of family life.

What sets my work apart is my documentary-style approach: I don’t just take photos, I am a storyteller. I aim to create space where people can be fully themselves unposed, unfiltered, and present so the images reflect real connection, not just curated perfection.

I started this journey because I believe the most powerful images aren’t always the ones we plan for they’re the ones we feel. And that’s what I strive to deliver to every client: timeless photographs filled with emotion, story, and truth.

Right now, I’m focused on refining my documentary style to tell even richer stories through my wedding photography. My goal is simple: to create photographs that couples will treasure forever not just as beautiful images, but as emotional keepsakes that bring them back to the feelings of their wedding day.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
In my experience, the bonds between people often break down because of lack of communication, unresolved expectations, and emotional distance. When people stop sharing honestly or stop really listening to each other, misunderstandings and resentment can grow. Trust can erode when one or both feel unseen or unheard. Life’s stresses whether it’s change, grief, or external pressures can also create cracks if not acknowledged together.

What restores bonds is often the simple but profound act of showing up being present, open, and vulnerable. It’s about rebuilding trust through small, consistent actions: honest conversations, forgiveness, and empathy. Sometimes it’s creating new memories together or revisiting old ones that remind people why their connection matters. In my work, I see how shared moments even quiet ones can help people reconnect deeply, reminding them of the love and history that still bind them.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to trust the process and stop rushing to have everything figured out. Every moment, even the uncertain ones is shaping who you’re becoming. I’d remind her that sensitivity isn’t a weakness; it’s a gift. The way you feel things deeply will one day help you see beauty in others and capture it in ways that move people. Keep being curious, stay kind, and know that you don’t have to be perfect to create something meaningful.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would say that what really matters to me is connection being present, showing up for people, and making them feel seen. Whether it’s through my work or in everyday life, I care deeply about the small, genuine moments that often go unnoticed.

That kind of connection is what I value deeply. It’s also what I bring to my photography creating space for people to be themselves, capturing those real, often quiet moments that tell their true story. For me, it’s the small, honest details that hold the most meaning.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m behind the camera, watching real moments unfold the quiet before a bride walks down the aisle, the laughter between a couple when they forget I’m there, or the gentle chaos of a family just being themselves. There’s something grounding about seeing life as it happens and knowing I get to preserve it.

Outside of work, I find peace in slow, simple moments editing photos with music playing in the background, being outdoors, or spending time with the people I love. It’s those unhurried spaces, whether in my work or life, where I can breathe, observe, and just be.
