Conversations with Kimberly Robertson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Robertson.

Hi Kimberly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It’s hard to believe I’ve been an instructor for 24 years now… time definitely flies! The journey started years ago at 10 years old. I must’ve known deep down this was my mission and purpose in life. To dance, create, teach, motivate and inspire. You definitely learn things along the way to be better at both teaching and the business of dance. Sometimes it’s learning by working for the wrong people and sometimes learning from the right people. Both I’ve experienced to get to where I am. I feel so happy to be where I am and look forward to all the new people I have yet to meet and work with. I have worked in the fast-paced competition level work place as well as the social dancing level workplace. I have loved all of it for different reasons and appreciate where I am now knowing I’ve experienced a lot in my years of dancing and teaching. Currently I’m enjoying a more relaxed environment with my students where they can learn privately with no pressure.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! The path to success is always a wind-y, changing road filled with lots of unknown. The biggest challenges are no longer the product I offer but the fast changing media world to draw the right attention with the right audience. I still have an “old-school” way regardless of what everyone else is doing. No matter what happens in this fast-moving world of technology, human connection will always win and people are craving it now more than ever. I believe in what I do and know it’s beneficial to all area of your life, be it mental and physical health!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I teach people of all walks of life and skill levels how to dance. Everything is partner based so I work with a lot of wedding couples, couples and singles all who want a niche skill in their arsenal. A skill that can be learned as a hobby, for special events or just to keep in your back pocket to build confidence.
My years of dancing include 9 years of classical ballet, Pro -American smooth dance competitor and Pro certified instructor in American Smooth, Rhythm and Nightclub partner dances via DVIDA. These are my specialty dances. I’m most proud of my students and their achievements on the dance floor. It could be nailing a dance in front of their family and friends knowing how scared they were to perform. I’m proud of anyone who finally got the courage to make the call and start doing lessons. Not everyone is confident in every area of their life. Dancing is one of these areas. I’m so glad my students have seen how easy I make it and overcome that fear right away.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Lessons are private and can be scheduled at your convenience. All are welcome. All levels! I’m asked how long will it take me to learn a particular dance. Everything depends on your immediate goals. If it’s to go out dancing or preparation for a wedding, a few lessons are sufficient to get you out there! If you want more variety, more skill and technique, just keep going! Everyone learns at their own pace and there is so much to learn. Ballroom, Latin, Country, Salsa, Swing. Beginner to Advanced
