Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Pomerleau.
Hi Bill, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started playing gigs and making money at 9 years old playing in my father’s band in Maine. We played all over New England and up into Quebec, Canada for many years. Music was always apart of my home growing up. I learned early on how much music was a bridge to opportunity, friends, and new experiences. I wasn’t really planning on a full-time music career but after relocating to San Diego post-college, I got a job as a full-time entertainer at the Shout! House dueling piano bar in downtown San Diego. From there I met so many musicians, engineers, producers and I spread my wings easily and kept working on my craft. I went freelance back in 2019 and have been so fortunate to continue making a living exclusively off playing music. I still do the dueling piano gigs but I also play as a sideman around town with several artists and bands. I also produce and audio engineer for about a dozen artists (and growing!)—that’s definitely become my strongest passion. Creating original music is the lifeblood of any artist. So the adventure continues for me every day!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh this is a tough question because mindset is everything. Everyone has their own struggles and everything is so relative to your own experience. My struggles were related to growing up in the pretty impoverished state of Maine—my father was always changing jobs so we moved a lot. I was always the new kid, the outsider. I didn’t really have a lot of family around and those who were really struggled to make ends meet. My parents really busted their butts to give me a good life so despite the difficulties, I have so much to be thankful for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in live performance as a singer and performer (both keyboards and guitar) and in a studio environment as both a music producer and an audio engineer. Honestly I’m most proud of just being able to BE a full-time musician in this crazy time of 2025. But I’m honestly very proud of all my work—the people who continue to hire me to perform for them, with them, to help them create, or to help craft their vision…every single one of them could hire any number of other highly talented San Diegans and yet they choose me for what I do and how I do it. I’m very, very grateful to all of them.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Nothing specifically
