Hi Salt + Soil, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Salt + Soil emerged from a shared vision between two La Jolla natives who met at the beach in San Diego and are passionate about clean eating. We, Gio and Brooke, discovered our mutual commitment to the Mediterranean approach to eating and recognized an opportunity to transform the local meal delivery landscape.
We founded Salt + Soil in 2024 to address a critical gap in the market. The existing meal delivery options either compromised on ingredient quality or sacrificed flavor for perceived health benefits. Our solution combines Brooke’s culinary expertise as Head Chef with Gio’s operational and business acumen. As a women-owned business with Brooke holding 51% ownership, we bring diverse perspectives to every decision.
Our philosophy centers on uncompromising quality: chef-crafted Mediterranean meals featuring exclusively organic ingredients, zero seed oils, gluten-free options, and environmentally conscious packaging. We partner with regenerative farms and prioritize seasonal, locally sourced produce. Each meal is designed according to functional medicine principles, recognizing food as a cornerstone of health and wellness.
From our initial concept, Salt + Soil has grown into a thriving local business serving families throughout San Diego. Beyond standard meal delivery, we’ve expanded into private chef services, providing customized meal plans for clients with specific dietary requirements or health goals.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never easy, and always be prepared to expect the unexpected! It has been great being partners in life and in business to support each other in and out of the workplace, but navigating this relationship brings its own set of challenges.
