We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chef Ty. Check out our conversation below.
Chef, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Gratitude for being on the wake up list comes to mind.
I’ve gotten almost perfect at remembering to be grateful, first.
Then, after that 15 seconds or so is done, I’m into my day.
Finance. Invoices. Inboxes. Orders.
Gym.
…that’s my first 90 minutes: in a nutshell.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Food By Chef Ty has been, itself, “cooking” for a while, now.
The business has become its own entitity and I am grateful to work for it.
I am a Private Chef and Caterer specializing in Elevated Dinners with an emphasis on flavor profile, presentation, and, above all else: service!
The relationship with the food and the diner means far more to me than the invoice does.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I firmly believe that the bond between people is most easily (and quickly) broken, by a slip in one’s memory that people are, and will always be: people.
And to be a person is to be imperfect, at fault, and in need of empathy, forgiveness, and grace.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Me To Younger Self:
Every mistake and bad decision (there’s a difference) that you make, I will forgive you for it and be waiting for you with a hug.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I have one that immediately comes to mind:
“There is a God. And it aint me.”
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew that I only had 10 years left, I would make an earnest effort to not let one critical, indifferent, or otherwise not-positive word come out of my mouth.
